2014 Super Rugby: Cheetahs vs. Bulls (Round 2)

Mallet - at least Spies would be fired then..
Stonehouse for sure, half the guys would be **** scared of him any case.

Hein, your points are all valid but the sentiment in general here is not to dish the Bulls.
Nearly every supporter, Bulls camp or not that I speak to wish for them to use the right players for the right game plan.

The continuous use of players like Spies and Hougaard (over the years) do not go down well from the team, supporters, sponsors and the Bulls itself.
Ludeke's insistence to use sub standard props and have his best players on the bench as he feels they are better power subs.

I bet you if he shows just the smallest amount of innovation and dare, the supporters will go with him trough thick and thin

I do like Stonehouse. And I think he gets the a lot out of his players. I would question the depth of his game plan but then again he hasn't had the chance to show all his cards with a world class squad has he..
He is a good 'front man' and leader. Maybe with the right assistants he could fare quite well in SR who knows, certainl not me.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for a new coach if he can bring something new and exciting to the team. But to throw Frans Ludeke under the bus is a bit premature. He got us to the playoff last year, and it's not his fault Dewald Potgieter is the worst captain ever. We had a bad opening game, against a team tipped to go all the way, and a dubious call from the match officials in the game with new guys making their debuts. I think Frans is still the right man for the job, and he certainly knows how to get his team to bounce back. they won't lie down and take the punches and not retaliate.

What about Jimmy Stonehouse?

Yes, Yes, Yes

I certainly agree that it would be premature to show Ludeke his marching orders the Bulls would be dumb not to give Jimmy Stonehouse some sort of recognition. The way he has coached the Pumas and what they've achieved for a small union is amazing, I would certainly not mind him replacing Pine in my gat Pienaar.

My biggest issue with Ludeke is his disregard for talent, ie. CJ Stander, Dawie Steyn, Mastriet, Blommetjies etc. but I guess that happens everywhere.

So I didn't get to watch the cheetahs game last week but saw the result of course. Disaster! (unless you're a Lions supporter...)

What went wrong? How Did Goosen go coming back from injury? I heard he picked up a new injury that isn't serious, but is that why he went off after 60 mins? Would love to see him get back to top form...

Johan was a bit rusty, and didn't really run a lot with the ball. In fact, Stats show that Marnitz Boshoff and Shaun Venter (the halfback pair of the Lions) together made a total of just 2 tackles.

He did go off for the injury on what looked like an arm/shoulder injury. But seems like he shrugged it off and will play this weekend.

I've edited the OP regarding the late change for the Bulls. IMO it is a dumb move to select Liebenberg for this match. He played Varsity Cup on Monday, and was on the field the full 80. this game is on Friday, so in essence he had 3 days inbetween matches. If he comes on, he runs the risk of getting injured as his recovery time is much less than the other players.

I'm interested to see how Flip goes as a captain.

I agree on Liebenberg, there has to be someone else that could cover for this match at least.

... The Cheetahs seem to have started pretty well ... the pitch looks a little chewed up/patchy in places

How was the performance of my player, Willie Le Roux?

From what I saw, he went okay, but it was raining pretty hard, and he had to kick alot ... all of the backs opportunities were inhibited by the rain in my opinion

Just caught bits and pieces of this one though I had it on (lots of phone calls and other interruptions). A bit of a lackluster game compared to last week's, but a better outcome for the Cheetahs. I guess the weather really put a damper on things... ;)

das

Has Fouche improved from last week? What are the chances Pollard will start next week?

Nope he sucked man, you don't kick two restarts out on the full at this level.
Hougaard and Visser had better individual performances and J du Plessis was a menace in the loose.

The problems at the Bulls can be fixed - just get a management team in that inspires the guys, not hold them back.
Sadly it will not happen this year.

I haven't watched such a **** poor game of rugby in a long time. The Bulls were pathetic, they persist with the kicking game and it's not working. The are plan-less and leaderless and something needs to be done quickly. Hougaard is not a 9 or at least not the role the Bulls want him to play, please just get rid of Fouche. I heard JLP had a good game in the warm up so just get him in there asap.

What a shambles!

The Bulls seem clueless! all that talent and they don't know what to do with ball in hand.

They seriously need to get a plan B and get it to work as Plan A is NOT WORKING! pathetic!

If our teams had to play each other now it would be 0-0 with 3 yellow cards each
