What nation would you like to see play Rugby ?

Brazil, they have potential to be among the best at any sport and I don't see why Rugby should be an exception. The day they kick off in this, we'll be in trouble.

Obviously Brazil. Would be amazing to have the usual rivalry between both in Rugby :)

Some classic chirps here guys and an interesting topic, Big E.

I actually have quite a few;

1) Netherlands; so close to the 6N action (okay so Belgium is a tad closer) and with so many of us rugby loving Saffa's readily avaible through passports and/or the grandmother/father rule it would probably be quite easy to develop if there was any form of interest. If I had the money I'd for it on a if-you-build-it-they-will-come basis as I think the Dutch love sport in general and initial success could potentially see rugby take off. Germany are in much the same boat here and a Germany vs France or Germany vs England match would be amazing. I don't want to 'muh heritage' but these countries getting up and playing rugby would get me interested. ATM the UK and France are getting benefit from our fringe players but they don't even need them.

2) USA; if they REALLY tried? One would think there'd be all manner of potential

3) Brazil; Argentina would have extra motivation and just imagine that rivalry! Would be interesting to see what their stereotypical 'flare' will translate to ITO rugby.

4) Nigeria; those big wrestlers in the front row, that tall timber in the 2nd, that speed and power for the rest... and I'd imagine it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to get these guys up and running so you'd be able to do so even if you were only in the hundreds of millions if not billions. Some skills and organization through hard training...

It's winning people every year but still has to compete with soccer and other sports.

Just a quick off topic question if nobody minds..

Is there truth to people on the internet saying Belgium is likely to split and/or divide between France and Flaandere to the Netherlands or is that just trolling that has caught on? Is there tension between the two groups/ are there two groups to start off with in the first place? I'm just interested and don't know if I should trust what I've heard.

They must make Zeke part of the Management team. Then they will get somewhere

effing Nigerians!! Why would you mention them?? they are already taking South Africa over, why give them the joy of taking over Rugby too??

What about a West Indian team?? their backline would certainly be one of the fastest...

Belgium consists out of two parts: Flanders and Wallonia with in the center Brussels. You could consider it as two separate countries and at one stage in history they merged both and Belgium was born.

The issues that are being highlighted in the media recently have always existed.

Flanders is economical stronger than Wallonia but as we're one nation with a very strong social model some of the money of Flanders is going to Wallonia to support them. Rightwing parties see this as an ideal opportunity to blow the whistle and make a big deal out of it. Honestly splitting the country for this reason is bs as I'm sure taxes will not be lowered after so nobody cares.

Brussels, the capital is located on Flemish territory but has always had a strong French influence. At this stage only 30% or less are Flemish speaking in Brussels, so once more you have the discussion is it ours or theirs? As Brussels has soo much economical meaning to everybody as well as the EU HQ this really is worth a big debate but the people living in Brussels say they don't want to pick anyside.

Last but not least you have a couple of suburbs surrounding Brussels. Some of them are Flemish some of them are French speaking. Over the last couple of years French speaking people having moving to the Flemish side and now everything has been changed into French altho it's a Flemish region. It's a bit like pushing people to speak a different language other then their mother tongue. The migration in the other direction also is happening but their the original core doesn't want to adapt. Once more a great excises to start discussing about.

The rightwing party who is pushing the idea of splitting Belgium won lots of votes during the last election as they boycotted the government last time resulting in us not having a proper government for +300 days. However, Wallonia is now growing on a economical scale and the Brussels issue only concerns a tiny % of our population, especially as people are leaving Brussels due to the high living costs as well as the grow of overseas workers ( EU) coming over.

Most of our political parties have finally understood this and will be focussing on re-injecting/ boosting our economy.
Personally, I don't have any issues with people being from Flanders or Wallonia and this is opinion that is widely shared across many fellow countrymen.

I'd love to see rugby catch on in West Africa. Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast etc... Their strength and speed will bring a new dimension to the world game

Thanks, Amobokoboko. That was very enlighting. So it's a case of there being some truth but blown out of proportion(??) much like it is within SA where small, no, actually minute' far right groups like the AWB or Boeremag get disproportionately large exposure in the media due to being so bloody noisy.

Indeed, for the moment some of the tasks that were performed at a federal level are now given to the local levels. But the main activity like justice, defense, health are still federal.

Well, the Netherlands obviously. In the eighties we used to be able to compete with the likes of Italy but somehow we stalled. Things are getting better though; attendance and participation figures are up, more and more children are getting introduced to rugby. My club organizes a school rugby tournament today and there will be 180 young children from all over the city on the field. Things like this didn't happen a couple of years ago. A Dutch TV channel is now broadcasting live matches from the autumn internationals and in the near future they will also broadcast the Six Nations and the Aviva Premiership play-offs. In 2015 our team will be back in the European Nations Cup 1B and hopefully we can stay in that league or move up.

Tim Visser has been in the media a lot lately. His debut for Scotland and his recent injury were covered by all major Dutch news agencies. Also, I know for a fact that the Dutch Rugby Union and other companies were very close to staging a (Tim Visser featured) Barbarians - South Africa match in the Amsterdam Arena last year. Unfortunately it didn't go ahead, but who knows maybe in the future.

A majority of the Dutch want to see Belgium split and for Flanders to rejoin the Kingdom again. Calls for this reunion between Flanders and the Netherlands usually stem from them. A merger between the harbours of Rotterdam and Antwerp would create the biggest harbour in the world. It's not gonna happen, mainly because most Flemmish wouldnt wanna join the Netherlands.
