RBS 6 Nations - Ireland vs Italy - 25/02/2012, 13:30

I hear loads of you Irish guys go on about SOB but I rarely see him having a really good game at international level. Is it that he's just in the wrong position being openside? I don't get the hype.

You only need to look at the Aussie game during the world cup to see just how effective he can be. He was immense for the whole world cup and the warm up games too. Problem is that now they're asking him to play the fetcher role, which doesn't allow him to play to his strengths at all. So he's pretty anonymous at the moment, yes. Same thing happened to Jamie Heaslip last season.

He's been light years away from last season's form, but then he mainly played as a blindside. This year see's him asked to play 7 where he's nowhere near as effective.

Ireland should move away comfortably now. Sting taken out of Italy after their missed kick and the extra Ireland 3 points.

What a soft penalty, yes the Italian 'tackled' him but he pretty much brought him down safer than the Irish player would've landed without interference.

Oh well...

Ireland look a thousand times better with Reddan at 9.

It's all about how you want to play though isn't it? Reddan will give you quicker ball, that's just the way it is. But, Murray is a better defender and around the fringes. I'm very much a believer that Reddan should play with Sexton and Murray with ROG.
