Transfers Rumours

Sorry if its already been said but Sale have signed former Manawatu flyhalf Matty James. What are his chances of cracking the starting XV does anyone know?

Think he's got a very good chance of being the first choice fullback,
Can't see him playing much FH though, apart from off of the bench

What are the chances of another fullback being signed before the start of the season though? its worth giving him a go at flyhalf if youre losing, he can make something out of nothing, or he can turn something into nothing.. He is a pretty similar player to Carlos Spencer really.

Not sure, a wing has just been signed today, so there's three more signings, with at least one being off field staff, and one rumoured to be Robin Sowden-Taylor.
Thinking about it, he'll have a good chance of playing FH during the international periods, as Hodgson has been named in the Saxons (and when Wilkinson inevitable injures himself, he'll be called up to the main squad) so won't be around all season, and our new FH is fairly young/unexperienced so there's a good chance James will start during these periods/at various points to give Hodgson a rest (though i still think he'll play 15 or 22 most of the season)

It would be awesome if he can manage that.. He was struggling to hold down a starting spot in the ANZC so even claiming a 22 spot would be pretty awesome for him

Borlase transfer to Munster

http://planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,16024_6249924,00.html

Peter Borlase (not sure who he is, which is why i'm making this thread) is transferring from Canterbury to Munster for next season. Seems this guy has the idea in mind of playing for Ireland? And he plays at PROP!! Could he be the answer to Ireland's call in the front row? He's been playing behind the Franks brothers and Crockett at the Crusaders, which has influenced his move up North, but even so, I was wondering if this guy is still any good to compete with Buckley or be a long term replacement for Hayes?

Would be great to hear people's opinions or any info on how good the guy is.

EDIT: Sorry and thanks to whoever moved my thread post to this thread. Don't usually create threads so was a little lost.

Needs must and if Munster and the IRFU think this will solve the tighthead prop crisis (propgate?) facing Irish rugby, then this is a good decision. Personally, I hate this. Nothing against Borlase or against Munster signing him but it strikes me as a quick fix solution rather than a move to help Irish rugby long term. I'd rather the IRFU invest in coaching front row forwards to get them to a high enough standard rather than say "sign for us and in 3 years you'll be an international".

From what I've read, Borlase is a very good scrummager.

Lads I can say Munster haven't signed him for that reason but if he available that us the IRFU call. He trained with us last Monday week and the tuesday but has returned to NZ now for their cup and will link up again when his involvement is done there. But can confirm he similar to Buckley in strength and can be a star asset.
Also an update to say Denis Leamy is coming along nicely and is ready for the battle to get back into the Munster and Irish set up

Heard a rumour on the terraces? Put them here and let's start some juicy gossip!

Soane Tonga'huia to Saracens.
Paul Diggin to Worcester.
Tendai Mtawarira to Saints (depending on the outcome of this SA government row)

The Tonga'huia one isn't true - he was going to sign but he changed his mind. I'm a Saracens fan, so I had an eye on that one for a while until it fell through.

And a bit more recently... (i.e Mid April) I noticed this old gem re-ignited on Beeds board.

O'Driscoll tempted by Stade

Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has admitted he is tempted by the possibility of linking up with Michael Cheika at Stade Francais in 2011.
Cheika will leave Leinster at the end of the season to takeover the reins at Stade.
And although O'Driscoll still has 18 months left on his current deal with Leinster and the Irish RFU, he has confessed that the lure of Paris could be hard to resist.
"I don't rule anything out," O'Driscoll, who turned down a move to Biarritz in 2005, told the Irish Independent.
"(In the past) I did have a big interest in moving. I was a bit dismayed about Leinster going through three coaches in three years.
"I wondered were Leinster going anywhere, but Michael Cheika gave us that stability.
"But that doesn't mean you have to stay in one club for your whole career. If the situation arose, I'd certainly be open to the idea of it.
"I still have 18 months left on my current contract. I'll wait until he (Cheika) gets over to Paris and see if he wants an old, battered 32-year-old.
"I'm really happy where I am and enjoying my rugby. I'll cross that bridge but it will be further down the track."

Has there been any more updates?

The Rebels may be interested after WC ... but so may the NZ Super 15 franchises with this overseas player slots available.

Lads O Driscoll made them comments ages ago and he will go to stade after WC for 1 big pay day and well he deserves it but don't be fooled he will be a warrior too for them. It either Stade or stay at Leinster which may be helped by fact he is married and settled now and there no club Krystal in Paris

As long as plays at 10 cause we are a bit thin in that dept; always were and probably always will be. Its fine, as I think PdV may select two overseas based players and he is the one that said that Pienaar is the Tiger Woods of rugby.

O Driscoll deserves an overseas contract, he worked hard enough for it, would be good if he would stay one more year as I might go to see a Leinster game in a couple of weeks.

Jacques Boussuge will go to Bath as long if/when Jonny Fa'amatuinau goes to Scarlets (If/when there's space in the salary cap). Moderator of the BathERE site has been in contact, seems a done deal.

Bakkies Botha on his way to Toulon after 2011 RWC

Sunday newspaper Rapport's Stephen Nell reports that Bakkies Botha, South Africa's controversial lock, has signed for Toulon.

Botha, who is serving a nine-week suspension for headbutting All Black scrumhalf Jimmy Cowan in the Auckland Test recently, is reported to have signed for the ambitious French club after the 2011 World Cup on a three-year contract, reputedly for R5 million per annum, roughly €500 000 or US$654 000.

Botha, who farms in the Waterberg District north of Pretoria, turns 31 in September. He is contracted to the Blue Bulls till 31 October 2011.

Botha had looked to going to Toulon in 2008 till he sorted out his contract with the Blue Bulls in a labour court and he was obliged to fulfil his contract with the Blue Bulls.

I read that article in the Rapport(Afrikaans newspaper), won't be surprised if Matfield joins him...
