England 2025/26

JEA was the forwards coach for Castres when they won the Top14. He's quite well regarded in that role but decided to take on DoR/Head Coach with Oyonnax and got them to the Top14. Most people agree England have been looking pretty good and JEA is part of that so I don't think it's performance related.

RFU meddling again?
Not sure would they meddle? Borthwick doesn't strike me as the guy who would put up with it. I could be miles off in that assessment.

Coles only has 14 caps and Martin 22, think both need a few more if we are to keep with those in the World Cup.

Ewels has 33, can’t see us going outside of that circle really now (with the exception of maybe CCS at lock).

But with Chessum and martins injury record we may be going into a World Cup final with Itoje Cole’s and either CCS or Ewels on the bench.

Itoje really is a bit of a miracle as a player with his non-injury record

And thats a big point. Surely he wont be able to continue playing 80 mins every game at the level he has been performing at. Or maybe he is superman after all....

On the Saracens locks....can we have Isiekwe please...hes be absolutely perfect for us, to guide some of our talented young locks.

I thought Alex Coles played very well this Autumn and is slowly getting better and better

Agreed. Without meaning to sound disrespectful, I think we can afford to rest Itoje against Wales and Italy.

I’m increasingly in favour of bringing Bamber in to the mix. There’s a lot to like and he seems to be increasingly influential for Sale.

Couldnt agree more. Theres a huge amount to like about what Bambers developing in to.

I think we have to be careful with Maro. Hes been a machine for so long...but genuinely, how long can he go on playing 80 mins every game at the standard he performs at. At what stage do you go from beasting him, to managing him? Or is that down to the player himself?

Yeah, but you're not coming at it from the angle that everything bad that happens is due to RFU nefariousness
Neither am I (although they are perfectly capable as demonstrated in the past) but England do have a massive coaching churn, even under different head coaches.

The other alternative are the head coaches themselves, but you could argue they're also appointed and answerable to the RFU.

It all does seem strange, does it not? I wouldn't say that it's normal.

Lawrence will not have enjoyed today. His drop at the end kind of summed up his match.

Freeman hasn’t got the 13 miles on the clock yet. But he wants to play there and has all the tools.
England suddenly have options...

Ojomohs performance at 12 in the last England game, Atkinson in Argentina, Lawrence is still a quality 13 but I suspect Freeman has more strings to his bow and is just a physical.

Going to be very interesting how this pans out in the 6n.

Feel for Atkinson - his injury came at a terrible time for him, and now he's playing in a dire Gloucester side outside of a terrible 10
Last season at least he could show his stuff on attack (while also having plenty of opportunity to show his defence) - hard to shine in this season's Gloucester setup though

Classic Gloucester curse strikes again. Where good players go to murder their international ambitions.
