I watched this play 10 times. 3 in "slow motion", as in pause/play/pause/play. I was 100% sure that the ref got that wrong and White 23 had engaged/tackled too early. But he didn't.
Extraordinary how well he timed it. Took a big chance.

I don’t understand how it’s cowardice? It was bush league, sure. He tried to big brother him and it went too far. But I don’t get the cowardice framing.

I mean, do you truly think Eben is scared of Alex Mann. They spent 78 minutes physically humiliating the Welsh. Using coward or cowardice is always a hard line for me because it’s such a strong accusation.

I don’t understand how it’s cowardice? It was bush league, sure. He tried to big brother him and it went too far. But I don’t get the cowardice framing.

I didn’t see the game just caught the highlights and watched the EE red, how the **** can anyone who isn’t blind call that an accident or try and defend it In some way, he sore red and was a grade A ****, if it was anything remotely resembling an accident he’d have quickly realised he felt the eye socket/ball and recoiled immediately that he did not, continued…..

I’m shocked WR & unions allow for such lengthy bans. I’m not sure I have ever seen an NFL player get 12 games for anything.

A player just spit on another player, something I would consider worse than gouging, and got a 1 game suspension.

I genuinely don’t know what could get you a 12 week ban in the NFL. Maybe bringing a weapon onto the field?

That was just a grisly watch all round really. Nothing more to say. Etzebeth’s eye-gouge was a shocker - he should get the book thrown at him. I know it will be their first team playing in those games, but you really do fear for Wales against England, Ireland and especially France in the 6 Nations. The gulf in class and power is just monstrous.

It should be lengthy ban, the chance of losing site in one eye is very real, we are also spectating a sport heavily in decline, when one of the most iconic players in world rugby behaves like this it further feeds the safety issues many parents already have serious concerns over, I just don’t think you understand the magnitude of this and are trivialising it somewhat.

The honest truth is that Wales only possess one player that can compete physically at test level and that is Jac Morgan.
A honest appraisal would be that even a full strength Wales XV would of likely suffered the same outcome today.
It is by no means certain, but very possible Wales could have a 3rd wooden spoon coming.
