A Political Thread pt. 2

Forgot she had these tax issues before. Surely you'd belt and braces it next time. Just to be sure. Story from Apr 2024

Yeah I thought this was relitigation the other day not another house. This one was this year...

Im a little baffled to why she thought she could "cheat" the system considering how scrutiny there is on her doings. Which leads us to.
Can these people not afford a decent accountant?
Which is the strange part this is a high profile governement minister and within the Labour Party the most likely person to be leading them next. You'd have thought she'd have put extra care into this or be paying a lot for someone to do so.

That's what makes it so frustrating - it's not hard to be clean, and she can definitely afford to pay the extra, so why not just do it?

Wasn't there a chancellor in the last government who had a multi Million pound fine due to not paying tax?

Nadim Zahawi failed to declare offshore income and ended up settling with a £5m tax payment to HMRC. This is levels above Rayner in monetary terms but as an ex Govt minister of course he escaped jail time after it was classed as a careless mistake - who would have thought.

They're all at it including the Blairs. A scandalous example of tax evasion masquerading as tax avoidance by their £1000 per hour lawyers. Why can't these ***** just pay what they're supposed to like everyone else. It's not like they can't make huge money doing consultancy, speaker tours etc. after they've left office. They also make a fortune while in office with PPE contracts, insider trading etc.

The British establishment absolutely stinks. The royals and establishment politicians continue getting away with murder, lining their pockets while working people play by the rules get absolutely rinsed through taxes, **** public services and a rising cost of living. All these privileged wankers are unaffected by the NHS waiting lists and rising public transport fares because they've all got private healthcare and get chauffeured around everywhere.

Meanwhile they distract everyone from the real culprits by getting us to fight amongst ourselves over hotels, boats, roundabouts, flags and public toilets.

It has wider implications as well as we saw with the MPs expenses scandal. Reeves wants to put up taxes this Autumn whilst their deputy leader is careless about underpaying SDLT. Not a good look at all.
I can imagine carelessly under paying my car tax. "Your cars showing no current VEL sir". "Sorry Officer I've carelessly underpaid it".

Absolutely. When you engage a solicitor or accountant you have to agree to their terms of engagement part of which requires them to keep records of all communications including emails in case they get audited or investigated.

Either Rayner or whoever advised her should be in hot water but we all know it'll be classed as a careless mistake with someone getting a slap on the wrist at worst.

Thats what solicitors and accountants do though, when im sat in my accountants office, the discussions we have, and the emails sent for confirmation of those discussions are very different things, infact most good accountants leave wiggle room and vagueness for this exact type of scenario, so in the instance your caught out, you can rectify the error on the spot, and no further action is taken...

I mean, ive never reached the dizzying heights of 800k 2nd properties or 40k in savings mind, and id think, if I was in the public eye, specifically under scrutiny daily, id inform the professionals to do everything by the book, to the highest standard that even if it all leaked to Kemi Badenoch shed take 1 look and throw it in the bin for fear of it Improving my public image.

Of course. Face to face meetings is all about relationship building/retention for them. They want your business and will act like they're on your side when you're in the room with them but when push comes to shove most of them won't advise you what to do (certainly not in writing) but rather present you with options (based on the information the client has provided) and put the onus on the client to make and own the decision.

Their small print will invariably say they aren't responsible if there are any enquiries or investigations from HMRC. In other words, you're on your own or any help you do request will be treated as a separate engagement and will result in more fees for them. I've been on both sides and know how it works.

Hasn't there been a change in the law now that makes them responsible?

Maybe my accountant is just a cowboy, he advises all the time face to face, then presents options in the follow up, and acts a third way in general hahahaha

Love that guy!
