Confirmed Transfers

Depends on how active Dimes is in the recruitment process. I assume he is, but considering it's Red Bull, they could well already be pulling executive decisions.

What did he get up to?
He was rubbing out other players' names to put himself ahead of the queue for the physio table, which was just the final straw, generally... not a team player, shall we say.

Not the sort of attitude think Dimes would want. Though he does also love a redemption story

Having watched a fair amount of top league he's a good carrier still but has been some way of his prime

The one year contract prob reflects the gamble very low risk really
We probably dont have a huge amount of money just yet (even if the deal is going through) and Diamond is looking to beef up the pack so its a signing that makes sense, and on a one year means nothing is majorly lost if it fails.

Yeah Dimes needs a squad for this season and he can afford to take punts

McGuigan has had some serious injury problems
Clarke fell out of favour with Gloucester
Mafi 35 years old and kind been stuck in the top league bubble

Reality is if they work out then he can factor I to the squad next season, if they don’t they are prob cheap enough that it was worth the shot

This season will probs be written off as a transition with the hopes that they can improve on last season.

The fun starts once they find a head coach

I imagine Newcastle are just looking for warm bodies to fill shirts for this season, hence the 1yr deals - next year is when the RB money kicks in, it's too late in the season to make a raft of serious signings now

Hallett would be a class signing

I wouldn't be surprised if Dimes signs a random Fijian winger

10 is a big worry because I don't know who is about really got Jack Debreczeni from brumbies as a free agent.

Yeah backs are critical now. We very short of them.

Our experienced players are
9 Stuart
11 Hearle
10 Connon
12 Arnold
13 Doherty

Only Arnold has stood out as very impressive last season, with Hearle playing well. Connon isn't the level required and Stuart needs to make way for younger options.

Joe Davis is a cracking 9 coming through but broke his arm so will be out for a bit.

Academy Centre Oli Spencer played quite a lot of games last season and he'll continue this season aswell. But as a centre he's been forced to play Wing, centre and fill back at times. Not ideal really.

Nathan Greenwood is a young academy winger and an absolute rocket. I have no doubt he'll get some minutes but you really want to limit how much he's thrown in against prem teams.

So yes...we need some reinforcements....

Fan favourite at the Rebels - then got into a spot of bother "Former Rebels forward Amanaki Mafi has pleaded guilty to assaulting ex-teammate Lopeti Timani but avoided a conviction after making a $50,000 payment to the former Wallaby forward"

Seems to be shaping up as a team aimed at being hard to beat so far, not a bad idea for a transition season. And as tigs etc have said they're being pretty shrewd with the signings.
