Why on earth would I pay money to some random opinion monger just because he posts on substack?

I make a joke that my grandfather had Sicilian Alzheimer's - he only remembered his grudges.

To be fair I think we all have skin in the game at this point, I don't share the catastrophising most here are attempting, I didn't in 2016 when being told the world would literally end, and I still don't now.
Trump is a goldmine for media of all kinds, nothing drives ratings better than him, a lot of organisations were begging for him to return in 2024.
With great ratings, should come great responsibility...
Some more than others though. When the George Floyd riots kicked off, yall had your own facsimile. But I watched my city go nuts and people died.
Someone asked earlier what they import from America. Our culture. The good and the bad. Mostly, it’s been bad lately.

I found them fascinating, but ultimately it wasn't really about Floyd, and I think that's why it spread worldwide. It was about a perfect storm, lock downs, boredom, frustration of the population etc...
Controversial opinion, I actually think we need a Floyd riot and a Jan 6th every now and then, like them or not it keeps the government with that thought that if the people truly unite (and I know they didn't on both of those occasions, mostly because they've been divided specifically not to) there is no hiding.
We've seen a lot of close calls in recent years, but we've been convinced we are our own enemy, white v black, woman v man, men in women's sports, sports, red v blue, right v left...

Trump administration claims Palestinian activist's "beliefs, statements or associations" justify deportation

The federal government has outlined its legal argument for deporting Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and prominent pro-Palestinian activist.
The new two-page memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio contains no allegations of criminal activity. Instead, it argues Khalil is deportable because of "beliefs, statements or associations" that would compromise US foreign policy interests.
The memo was submitted in response to a request from an immigration judge for evidence supporting the administration's order to remove Khalil, who is a legal permanent resident.
The administration previously said it based its deportation order for Khalil on an obscure provision from the Immigration and Nationality Act, which provides broad authority for removals based on activities that "would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences" for the US.
Rubio based his decision on "information provided by the DHS/ICE/HSI regarding the participation and roles of (redacted) and Khalil in antisemitic protests and disruptive activities, which fosters a hostile environment for Jewish students in the United States," the document states.
The memo says Khalil's presence in the US undermines policy efforts to combat antisemitism "around the world and in the United States," as well as to protect Jewish students.
Khalil's lawyers told CNN they do not expect the federal government to provide additional evidence to fulfill the judge's request.

Trump says he is looking at European Union as "one bloc" when it comes to tariffs

President Donald Trump said today that "all countries are different" when it comes to negotiating tariffs, however not the European Union.
"Every country is different. Some have certain advantages that others don't have," Trump said during a Cabinet meeting at the White House while speaking about negotiating tariffs after pausing his "reciprocal" tariffs for 90 days.
When pressed by a White House reporter, however, if the European Union will be treated as a block or individual nations for the tariffs, Trump was quick to respond, "one bloc."
"We are looking at it as one bloc," Trump said, "they've been very tough."
The president went on to claim his retaliatory tariffs on China, now at least at 145%, made the EU halt counter-tariffs on the US.
The EU announced earlier today that it would pause its retaliatory US tariffs "to give negotiations a chance," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
"They were ready to announce retaliation, and then they heard about what we did with respect to China," Trump touted. "They said, you know, we're going to hold back a little bit."
"Look, the EU is very smart, but they really have taken advantage of the United States," he added.
Talk on tariffs scarce: During the Cabinet meeting, which was open to the press for over an hour, Trump and his top administration officials said the word "tariff" just 19 times, as markets continue to reel over the president's trade moves.
