Ok ok, there are lots of quick guys out there. But who do you think is the quickest? Name me your top five, and what rating of *SPEED* you would give them.

Remember, they do not have to be world class players, we are talk strictly speed, if you guys could maybe provide a video of the man you think is quickest doing his thing it would be much appreciated, it would just give everyone a better idea.

I'll start off with just one guy, Tonderai Chavhanga. Injury prone, average hands...but SOOOO quick.

Check how he catches up to his fellow team mate who intercepted it. To me is the quickest proffesional rugby player out there and should be the fastest in the game. Id honestly give him a speed rating of about 95/6/7.

For me, I'd think the fastest current five would be Chavhanga (lost a lot of speed though), Ngwenya, Nokwe, Varndell and Davies.

rod davies - runs the 100m in 10.6 in high school. seroius gas over 40m. rating of 95/6 in my opinion. also worth a mention are ngwenya, ashton, varndell, habana.

Takudzwa Ngwenya, Tom James, Tom Varndell, Tonderai Chavhanga, Rod Davies, Bryan Habana, Lachie Turner, Mikaela Pesamino, Joe Rokocoko, Doug Howlett, Paul Sackey, Gerhard van den Heever, Vilimoni Delasau, Sosene Anesi all should be up there with the quickest

Haha mate, it'snot sped up...i know for a fact because i got the actual game on tape. And Masaga is quick no doubt, but he did not catch up...and Chavanga had to run around another defender whilst fending off causing him to slow down, where as Masaga just ran straight back with no defenders to dodge.

Chavange ran 100m in 10.27 when he was 17 years old, is a Zim 100m champ.

********. I've heard 1,000 stories of rugby players speed, and I've seen things posted on the internet, but a majority of the sprint times are spurious if not completely made up. I've heard Chavhanga entered a junior athletics competition, however the Zimbabwe 100m record is held by Fabian Muyaba, whom ran it's 10.75 in the 1988 Summer Olympics, and has a personal best of 10.15 from 1992. This just demonstrates how far off most people's guesses are. The rugby player who I've heard of having a very quick sprint time is America's Ngwenya, who apparently ran in under 10.6 seconds according to the USA Eagles web site, but I'm still doubtful of that.

It'd be great if I could trust most of the times that people give, but I've become more and more skeptical of these things, as there is just so much BS on the internet.

Aye, people throw about these 100m times all the time
i.e People say "oh, Ugo Monye is the fastest winger, he ran the 100m in 10.5 seconds" while failing to mention he did that 10years ago, and is now twice the size so inevitable slower

Say what you want, believe what you want. But Chavanga is the fastest player in rugby today, and your theory about Masaga is faster is the only thing that is '********.

Who care's who is the fastest each of those guys that you's have named would catch each other on the field during a game, you don't get extra points for the been the fastest player. All these guys run those time as 1-offs and not in the 67th minute after been smashed about all game.A winger needs more then speed.

Its like Lewis Hamilton saying i got the fastest car but it handles the corners like **** so i lost the race....

@peanuts40 Chavanga could be the fastest but he would get **** on by Ranger,Mitchell,Habana,Shane Williams,Ashton........i named 5 different guys from different countries so im not bias...

Yeah, there's no doubt that Tonderai Chavhanga (RSA) is very fast, but Takudzwa Ngwenya (USA) is probably quicker and has great agility.

Here's clip of him pumping Habana in 2007

Jonah Lomu should be among the fastest, running 100 meters in 10.4 seconds

Where did I mentioned anything about Masaga? I only was trying to point out, that most of the comments about players speed (like Lomu ran 10.4), is at best an unintellegent guess, and a majority of the statistics you hear about, are usually flat out lies, like Chavhanga is a Zimbabwe sprint champion with a national record in the 100m. If you wish to prove me wrong be my guest, but I have spent a good few hours trying to find sources for rugby players official sprint times, and most of the crap you find on the internet are total embellishments. As it so happens, I do think Chavhanga is one of the quickest players around. He is quite a bit slower now due to age, injury and rugby training than he was when he first came onto the rugby scene, but he's very quick.

Jonah was extraordinarily swift for his size and is possibly the best combination of raw speed and power ever seen in any team sport(except maybe America's Herschel Walker or Bo Jackson in their prime) but that 100m time can't be right.

Rod Davies is pretty quick

Of course it isn't. Lomu has said his best sprint time was 10.8 recorded on a hand held stop watch, but even then I doubt it's accurate. Almost no player would be able to break 11 seconds. It's not that rugby wingers aren't extremely quick, because they are, they're just not olympic quick that some people seem to guess. If anyone is genuinely interested in the fastest rugby player, look up Dallas Robinson. He was on the USA 7's team, but he was training to be an Olympic Sprinter. I think he got around 10.05 seconds, before he suffered a leg injury. Interesting story. He's 6'5'' and 100kg, but he's never played a first class game of rugby yet, and probably never will.
