So I am 17 and currently playing high school rugby and starting up the new season for club and I am about 6'4" or 1.96m and weigh a light 160lbs or 73kg. I play second row and am both a lifter and jumper in line outs. I have good stamina with average speed and tackling, good passing and ability to identify the threats during a rugby match. I'm not very good at kicking though :p so I was just wondering if I play sevens what position I would be best suited for because my club is going to be playing in a sevens tournament this summer and my school may be putting together a sevens team for the off season... THANKS

Hmmm.. I would advise you to work on the Restarts. You have good height.... You should play in the Forwards.. But honestly, forwards seem to be no different from backs in the 7s game.

Anyways.... Work on your lineout jumping.. But Regaining the ball at kickoff would make a very valuable commodity in 7s.

Ummm, speed. Work on speed training and some fitness. Seriously. You could be a very good forward in rugby union, but unless you have decent speed and fitness, you'll be pretty average and you can really get embarrassed. I'm a big prop, so in the summer I try and do as much sprint training and cardio work as I can, so come sevens season, I get to live my dream of actually touching the ball during a game.

Yep speedwork a lot of anaerobic stuff. Really blow up those lungs.

Just to echo above, fitness!
You don't realise how hard running for 7minutes is until you're on the pitch, and it's a killer

As everyone else has said, you'd be a forward - 7s props/hookers are pretty much XVs flankers, and scrums are over so quickly there's not a lot to worry about there
Your work in the lineout and the restart will be an advantage

Sevens is great, I'm sure you'll have a blast

I am about 6'4" or 1.96m and weigh a light 160lbs or 73kg.THANKS

How'd you manage that? You must be pretty lanky. As everyone else has said fitness also if your good at turnovers in 15's in 7's they'll be ****.

Thanks everyone for their advice and I guess I will always be a forward no matter what game of rugby I play :p

Forwards in 7s are barely forwards anyway, really - set pieces last a few seconds and then you're back in it, same with rucks: they're over in a flash

Also, I'm 2 inches shorter but weigh over 10kg more than you and play centre/wing (and have filled in at SH in 7s before), so you could well end up in the backs

Ye fitness but also you need to ensure you can read the game well, by this make sure you can see where the mismatches occur and work the ball to the mismatch. Also ensure you are good at tackle to jackle and back to feet. This is also crucial in 7s. Being able to be a good jackler is crucial in 7s.
