</td></tr> </tbody></table> Wakefield Wildcats have announced they will go into administration in order to avoid a winding-up petition brought by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
Despite talks with four potential buyers, no deal had been confirmed in time to head off the petition, which was due to be heard on Wednesday.
"We have not been able to secure the funds necessary to pay the amounts due to HMRC," read a club statement.
"We have no choice but to seek the appointment of an administrator."

sadly this was inevitable, saw Garry Schofield was doing his usual line in **** stiring at the northern rail cup basically saying that Barrow would be ready to take wakefield place if needed, i think Widnes might have something to say about that Garry apart from the fact that its a totally madcap thing to say

Bad news for them, and with their stadium being called in (for little reason by all accounts) I can't see a Wakefield in Super League 2012.

Great shame to see any team fold but with Wakefield being one of the most historic teams in Rugby League i think its a even bigger blow.

They are pretty historic, make no doubt about it. There are buyers in the pipeline apparently so hopefully we'll be able to keep hold of them.

Could also be the chance that some buyers may get put off with a team with some financial baggage.

Possibly, but there will be a due diligence process to sort that out.

Group secures Wakefield takeover
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been taken over by Spirit of 1873 Ltd, a group run by businessman Andrew Glover.
The rescue deal is subject to the Rugby Football League's final written confirmation that Glover passes a fit and proper person test.
It comes after fellow Yorkshire businessman Steve Parkin decided not to proceed with his bid.
The Wildcats entered administration on Friday and as a result will be deducted up to six Super League points.
Despite Parkin's decision to withdraw on Thursday evening, Batley-based administrators O'Hara & Co were hopeful of a takeover before Saturday's opening game of the new season against Castleford Tigers at the Millennium Stadium.
The club applied to go into administration at the beginning of February to avoid a winding-up petition brought by HM Revenue & Customs over an unpaid tax bill thought to be in excess of £300,000.
A club statement said: "The deal will secure the Wildcats' long-term future and give this club a fresh start.
"At the core of our plans is securing the financial stability which will allow us to support the team on the field and give our loyal fans the experience and success they deserve."
The terms of the agreement will see the Wildcats playing at their long-time Belle Vue home for the 2011 season.
Speaking last week, Glover, whose company are Wakefield's shirt sponsors this season, said he had made an offer for the troubled club and that his fit and proper person test had been approved by the RFL.
He also confirmed that the Spirit of 1873 would go ahead with the club's bid to gain planning permission for a new 12,000-seat stadium at Newmarket.

Excellent news. :)
