URC Round 5: 2025/26

Munster: Shane Daly; Diarmuid Kilgallen, Dan Kelly, Alex Nankivell, Thaakir Abrahams; JJ Hanrahan, Ethan Coughlan; Michael Milne, Lee Barron, John Ryan; Jean Kleyn, Fineen Wycherley; Jack O'Donoghue (capt), John Hodnett, Gavin Coombes.

Replacements: Niall Scannell, Jeremy Loughman, Ronan Foxe, Evan O'Connell, Ruadhan Quinn, Jake O'Riordan, Tony Butler, Shay McCarthy.

Not a bad team. Hodnett straight back in. Jake O'Riordan to make his debut and O'Connell and McCarthy to have their first appearances of the season. Kelly switches from 12 to 13 could be a feather in his cap when it comes to national selection. Definitely more in the mould of a 12 for me though.

Kelly was a superb u20 and I could never understand why he wasn’t given a chance at 12 for England at a time when they picked a succession of donkeys in what was a problem position. Tbh his single cap looked more like an effort to block Ireland from poaching him back, so I was delighted when Munster picked him up, and I haven’t been disappointed, especially as Henshaw unfortunately looks to be on the slippery slope and Aki is picking up injuries.

He will play for Ireland A on November 8 so I think we will cap him pretty quickly if he stays fit.

Yes that is Dan Sheehan's brother. Has been around wider training squads before, so fair play to him. Is even taller than Dan.

Thank God it's Zebre. International periods will be a slog this year.

Really hope McLaughlin goes well, he's a guy we could really do with stepping up to the level.

Should get the job done but it'll be nervy at times.

I know South African stadiums tend to look like they are lacking in attendance, but for the Lions Vs Ulster it really looks empty.

That’s not just a visual. The Lions games are just terribly attended. Think it was like 2k last weekend. We’ve covered the reasons in past posts but main driver is it’s in one of the most dangerous parts of Joburg, whereas people can just get a good experience watching on tv. Especially when it’s a 30 degrees middle of the day game.

Pretty sure I should overlap with the Ulster team at the OR Tambo airport this evening.
