Williams really needs to up his performance from last week too! I'm not sure what the loose-trio will look like - McCaw has spent much of the week training at 8, but Steve Hansen said today he will start in the 7 Jersey. Guildford too will want to have a strong game for the same reason.
I terms of the Tri-nations, it most likely will be (unless South Africa somehow pull off an upset). This will be a very important game for the AB's in terms of RWC preparation though, as they only have this and 3 more games together as a team before he RWC starts. It is going to be important for building combination, and the players have a lot to play for, as Henry recently admitted their starting 15 is not nailed down yet, and there are still places up for grabs in the 30-man RWC squad (particularly in the outside backs). According to reports the AB's starting lineup looks like it will be: Crockett, Hore, B Franks, S Whitelock, Williams, Kaino, McCaw, Thomson/Messem, Cowan, Carter, Guildford, Nonu, Smith, Jane, Muliaina. SBW is expected to be named on the bench. It will certainly be a big game for Wyatt Crockett, as he is only in the squad due to Woodcocks injury. He was ok against Fiji, but will want to have a big game v South Africa to really push his case for inclusion in the final 30-man RWC squad. I'm not convinced about Whitelock and Williams as the locks - it will certainly help the AB's lineout, but the scrum may suffer slightly as neither are usually 'tighthead locks'. Williams really needs to up his performance from last week too! I'm not sure what the loose-trio will look like - McCaw has spent much of the week training at 8, but Steve Hansen said today he will start in the 7 Jersey. This means either Messem will again start at 8 (if so he will need a big game) or Thomsom/Kaino will start in the 8 jersey (with McCaw possibly packing down in the number 8 position in attacking scrums). It sounds they are planning on giving SBW 20-30 mins at 12 inside Nonu, which could be interesting. I looks like Cory Jane will get a chance on the right wing, and certainly has a lot to prove, as this may be his only chance with the likes of Toeava and Gear not far away from returning and Sivivatu looking sharp last week. Guildford too will want to have a strong game for the same reason.
