Transfers rumours

Bristol count Sam Bedlow, who moved to them at 22yrs old with 2 seasons of senior rugby under his belt, as an academy product

lol, Tigers have more right to call Kelly an Tigers academy player.
I guess it's part of the desperation of clubs wanting to say they have this many academy products in their squad.

Academy Contract ;)

Actually on this topic, do clubs get compensation like in football when a player moves under a certain age? Can imagine investing loads into a youngster and then loosing them at 18 due to another club offering pro contract would be infuriating

Don't think so.
I think the only plus is that said clubs can't claim homegrown credits for them.

Ahh ok makes sense. Again all squads will just fill with Academy guys i reckon, Eckersley, Ma'asi White, Fisalau and Monye are the big players coming through for us

AFAIK, U24 (in the rugby sense) players can be signed to an academy contract. Fair play to Bristol if they managed to get someone with 2 seasons of senior rugby under their belt to sign an academy contract!

Unfortunately we'll have to take that last one off your hands
HEY... you leave him alone.... Apparently he's a serious player and travelling with Senior Squad already. Coming soon onto Senior Academy contract.

Assuming it must have a decent difference but JESUS WHAT A NAME.. Coventry BS Stadium ain't much better. so CBS Stadium .... it's not getting better.

We will all still call it the Ricoh. Just wondering when they will get rid of those horrible blue seats and get some black and yellow ones

Fair enough. If Allan is done with International then great signing because Smith is your shining star but without him, it's tough.

Looking at your squad, I also thought that Backrow and Hooker looked thin in true quality starter once Baldwin leaves and with Evans out long term and Dombrandt potentially England bound.

Also Lock.... looks very thin on the ground with only 4.
Italy are clearly investing in Garbisi's development with Canna as the back up. That leaves Allan as 3rd choice and I think he's seeing this as an opportunity to do something in club rugby. Obviously we haven't won anything in years, but there's certainly more potential to do so than there is with Benetton or Italy.

We are light in all of the positions you've mentioned. I'm hoping Evans isn't super long term (still TBC right now), but we're definitely lacking depth in the back row. We have 4 fit actual back row players and Kenningham is only just out of the academy. Lewies and Lamb can cover 6 but are definitely better in the second row.

Musk and Riley are promising hookers, but having seen how much value Baldwin has added, I feel like we need a first choice hooker to set the standard for the young guys coming through.

I suspect we have a lot of leavers (including some on decent money) so I'm hoping we can re-invest in the areas where we need more depth. I'm not sure who is leading the recruitment strategy right now (I assume Millard and Spokes?) but our recent signings have been encouraging.

So Blackett has announced that Wasps have signed a Loosehead, Hooker, Tighthead and Second Row all to be announced in next few weeks with 2x second row (one front line/one squad) and a 6/8 being looked at who can jump in line out.

Currently we believe its Robin Hislop (loosehead), Pieter Scholtz (tighthead), Elliott Stooke (second row) and an unnamed hooker.

Exciting times seeing as we seem to be strengthening finally especially with longer term injuries to Willis (J), Vukasinovic, Launchbury and Rowlands leaving.

Stooke is a very good signing. It's a shame Quins were still in the Gustard malaise when we spoke to him as he would have been ideal for us.

Big difference will be for us if he does sign that he most likely won't be away on England duty a lot. When Launchbury and Rowlands disappear on international duty, we really struggle.
