Transfers 2014/15

Joe Carlisle, Wasps ----> Treviso.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, no surprise really.

Yup. I guess their first round of signings were a load of 'who the hell?' types.

Has there been any word on what guys who signed with Bristol prior to the end of the season are doing?

Only Peel and Perenise had loan clauses, although I hear neither will be used.

Laurie Fisher --> Gloucester as head coach

Confirmed... but I can't see any confirmation of when - Is he arriving now, or at the end of the SR season?

think it was confirmed in the Aussie press that it'd be end of the S15 season which is only another few weeks anyway (first weekend in august if they make the final).

he's not going to eb in place until September at least - but with Humphries holding the fort i doubt that's of major concern.

It's still the head coach missing pre-season - the fact that it isn't even covered in the official press release irks me a little.

I understand, and kind of agree, but i guess if he's the best man for the job and brumbies won't let him go then they just have to deal with it.

Think the press release just reflects the vagary of when he'll arrive...

I have mixed feelings on whether it will be a minor or a major problem.

I am not too upset about missing the head coach. Coaching in all areas will still go ahead. The most important parts of pre-season, the head coach will have probably quite a small amount of input e.g. strength and conditioning and set piece training can go ahead without the head coach with no problems.

I am more worried about missing him in a forwards coach capacity. Stanley will probably take control for now, so at least they are being coached, but it would have been nice to have had Laurie's expertise sooner.

I figure it to be worth the wait in any case. It'll be the main part of the season where the head coach comes into their own anyway.

Definitely - I'm just annoyed by the complete lack of "he will arrive at this time" in the press release - it's not exactly a minor detail!

Anton Bresler, Sharks -> Edinburgh South Africans
Eze called this one months ago.

George Wacokecoke: Saints academy --> Bath
Beno Obano: Wasps academy --> Bath

Neither confirmed officially, but I'm 99% sure they are complete.

Alan Solomons has made roughly 90% of his signings from his South African contact book.

Remember Scotland are planning on picking WP Nel and Josh Strauss who will qualify just before 2015, Cornell du Preez also considered a project player, Bresler probably is too.

Just a side note Bresler is not South African but from Namibia

I know of that article - but there's been no official confirmation i.e. - by Bath.

Rumour on the Bath forum that Martin Roberts has left/is leaving the club this season and that Genia is a done deal for next season.
Source is supposedly a current Bath player.

What's strange is that Roberts is actually taking part in pre-season with us - so we'll probably see very quickly whether there is any truth to the rumour.

Off to London Welsh?

That's who I've heard he has signed for.

Talking of transfers, how mediocre has London Welsh's recruitment? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2014–15_Aviva_Premiership_transfers#London_Welsh All of that bar 2 or 3 carries has very little pedigree at this level. Although having said that, I remember thinking Exeter's squad looked quite average when they first came up and they did remarkably well, and then stayed there doing well and now attract a decent level of player.

Newcastle's recruitment doesn't look that great either. Ironic that Dean Richards criticised Bristol signing David Lemi as he was "too old" (http://www.espn.co.uk/premiership-2013-14/rugby/story/219137.html), he has now gone and got Alesana Tuilagi who's a year older and unlike Lemi appears to have spent his past 2 years in Japan watching his waistline expand, he looked very round at that Singapore 10's tournament. Andy Tuilagi is by far the worst of the brothers as well, and to be honest, I think he's just getting by through his name at this stage. Ask any Newport GD fan, he was awful there and by the looks of his performances for Samoa in June he hasn't improved much. Eric Fry is an odd signing as well.

Wasps look to have made some good signings though (until they signed Yapp), London Irish some pretty solid ones, Leicester as well.

EP Kings wing Sergeal Petersen will play Super Rugby for the Cheetahs next season.
The Cheetahs have also signed Pumas and Lions fullback Coenie van Wyk for next year, as the Cheetahs look to replace several departing players.
Johan Goosen (Racing Métro), Hennie Daniller (Zebre), Riaan Smit (Oyonnax), Ligtoring Landman (Newport Gwent Dragons), Nick Schonert (Worcester Warriors), Kevin Luiters (EP Kings) and Andries Ferreira (Zebre) will all be leaving the Cheetahs after Super Rugby.

Bloody hell that is a lot of their 'stock players' on top of losing Adriaan Strauss and (supposedly) Nyakane! Cleaning house, just not able to compete or a combination of the two? If I were the Cheetahs I'd have rather gone for Jesse Kriel though.

If you add the players they have lost over the last two seasons no wonder they are 2nd from the bottom of the log!
