Hi guys,

Just a quick question about the TOEFL certificate. This certificate is a kind of degree that proves that the holder is capable of using english as a second langue. Some UK/US companies and universities ask this before you can enroll or be employed.

The certificate is valid for two year ( as your level will evolve).

Is it worth the investment? My company ( financial industry) could allow me to head overseas for a while to gain experience.

Your thoughts please.

Cheers.

As fai as I know, it officially valid only for universities and only for two years. Extra-officially, companies take it and they accept certificates older than 2 years.
I think it is only worth it if it is for a specifical purpose. Say, if you are applying to a particular job that asks for it. Taking it "just in case" is something I hadn't heard of, but maybe it's worth it too.

Well that's the point actually. For the moment I have a job in Belgium where my previous jobs allowed me to travel across Europe.
As I don't have kids nor a house for the moment I'm considering of going abroad and work there for 1-2 years. A colleague of mine is moving to London and is looking for a job but first she needs to pass the TOEFL. She's French speaking. Maybe it's easier to find a job when you hold the certificate? Don't know.

Well, I guess it depends on the employer. I can't really help you there, I reckon that for some employers having the interview in english in enough, whereas for the ones that receive too many applications the TOEFL helps to do some skimming before...
Sorry man, I'm just saying stuff you already know.
Good luck with your projects anyway.
