Huddersfield captain Chris Thorman has been charged by the Rugby Football League with biting the finger of an opponent.
The utility back was put on report by referee Steve Ganson during Sunday's controversial engage Super League match against Bradford at the Galpharm Stadium and has now been ordered to face the league's disciplinary panel.Bulls full-back Michael Platt made the allegation during the frantic last 10 minutes of his side's 25-24 defeat by the Giants.
Thorman, who scored a try, four goals and a drop goal in his side's nailbiting win, could face a ban of up to eight matches if found guilty of the offence when he faces the panel on Tuesday. Ganson sent four players to the sin bin and dismissed Bradford centre Paul Sykes after he protested against his decision to blow for time while the teams were preparing to pack down for a scrum. Sykes has been charged with using foul and abusive language to a match official, a grade C offence which carries a ban of up to four matches.
Bradford hooker Terry Newton, who was twice placed on report, was cleared of any wrong-doing.
He was alleged to have hit Huddersfield loose forward Stephen Wild with a late challenge and performed a 'spear' tackle on Andy Raleigh but the RFL match review panel has decided Newton had no case to answer.
He is free to take his place in Bradford's side for their trip to Warrington on Friday, although he is currently nursing an ankle injury. Back-row forward Sam Burgess is to see a specialist to discover the extent of a shoulder injury sustained in the defeat by the Giants.
I certainly don't remember there being any other citations for biting in Super League, is this the first?
