The last Harrier flights are taking place at the moment and after today they'll be retired.

What great shame. The Harrier is an unbelievable feat of engineering and a truely iconic plane. Easily as sad as seeing Conchord go imo.

The irony being we're stuck building some mini-carriers with nowt to fly from them. Cancel the carriers and there's enough in the coffers to keep the Harriers <_<

Agreed that it's another Concorde moment coming to an end. As a combat aircraft the Harrier is supposedly pretty shite, but it's vector-takeoff/manoeuvre versatility makes it an asset.

At least the wings haven't been clipped by the French this time so there still will be the occasional chances for the privately owned examples at air shows (etc) to fly.

Sadder than concord, imo

Used to love seeing Harriers at air shows and the such (though I suppose they'll still crop up there, as Spitfires etc. still do), such a sad thing to see them decomissioned, fantastic bit of engineering,
Who would've thought you could get a hovering plane?
