With the rate the smaller nations have been improving (which was unexpected for me at least, because since 2007, I've only paid much attention to the southern hemisphere's top teams, i.e. watching Tri Nations and Super 14-15), we haven't seen anyone put up 100+ points in a match. Closest we've had so far are the Springboks putting up 87 against Namibia, and the All Blacks scoring 83 against Japan. I personally have a feeling that the barrier might not even be broken this time around.

Which, to me, is a good thing. The more competitive rugby nations there are, the better. This isn't some old boy's club like cricket (sorry, had to take a dig at the ICC there).

Do you think it will be reached this tournament?

Having a quick look at the games to go in the pool stages. The following games could break the 100 points barrier.

New Zealand v Canada
England v Romania
Wales v Nambia

Out of these I think Wales have the best shot at it.

I hope none of the teams break 100 though as the debate about why have lesser nations in the cup will start up again.
Teams like Russia and Georgia are having lots of funding and backing by the IRB and it is the way forward.

As for old boys clubs don't even get me started on the English RFU, they make the ICC look like the United Nations open to everyone.

I can't see any of those matches ending in 100+

Canada will put up a bigger fight than Japan - I can see NZ shipping a fair few points, but I don't think they'll get more than 60
England vs Romania I think could see England pushing 60
Wales/Namibia would be the best bet, but I can't see Wales getting more points than SA did

I'd love for us to stick a ton past Namibia.

Have we ever scored 100+ in a international? I can't think of any

Pffft
Canada are a pretty decent side
Romania aren't too shabby not bad enough to lose by 100 to anyone anyway
Wales won't put more on namibia than sa did

I think Australia might have a shot against russia

I don't think so
Russia and USA are fairly similar - I'd say the Russian defence is better than the USA

Australia put 67 past a USA side with their big names rested, so I can't see them getting an extra 5 tries past Russia

Like I said it was a very quick look at the last few games. They were games I thought it could be done, out of the remaining games.

Wales have the best shot, and if Australia can shop 100 past Russia, England could against Romania.

I also think its great those total blow-outs aren't happening anymore. Sure, Japan sent out a 2nd string side and SA went crazy against Namibia at the end but still not a 100+ and the big thing for me is these teams have generally held out for at least the first 30 minutes. Structures are improving and as the player basis develop and the game becomes more professional in these countries i am sure the skill levels and fitness will rise accordingly. So, yeah, the future of the sport is looking bright IMO as the trend is a definite upward one.

Also can't see anyone go over 100. I think SA vs Nam was the biggest chance but Namibia held out well to limit SA to 31 at half time considering SA pretty much fielded a full strength side.
