I have had some people contacting me asking why I have the Crusaders only in second place with the Reds in first. They have argued that the Crusaders on 30 points, with a differential of +129 ought to be ahead of the Reds, also on 30, with a differential of only +84.
There are also a number of other tables around the internet showing the Crusaders 1st and Reds 2nd.
They are all wrong. A new rule for teams on the same points has been introduced this year.
Here are the tie-breaker criteria for Super Rugby
[textarea]If two or more teams are equal on points in any position on either the Conference or the Combined standings at any time during the regular season, their ranking will be determined by the following:
1st. Most wins from all matches
2nd. Highest aggregate points difference from all matches
3rd. Most tries from all matches
4th. Highest aggregate difference in tries for and against from all matches
5th. Coin toss (used only to determine finalists)[/textarea]
Reds have six wins, the Crusaders have only five, so the Reds are ahead.
