Super Rugby is in Big Trouble

Super Rugby Final was boring. People are not watching Super Rugby and each year less are watching Rugby overall because it is boring. Rugby will soon become like Test Cricket (fanatic die-hards only) unless it 'goes back to the future'. The days of watching the great Brumbies scoring 50 points and 90% of those points being tries and conversions are long gone. I recorded the Super Ruigby Final at watched it on replay at 6x speed. Here is what I saw: bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - wait that was a try - replay - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - wait - another try - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - bla bla bla - penalty - shot - etc etc etc. That was the whole game - and pretty much all Super Rugby games except for maybe a few NZ teams playing each other. Only two good things about the Super Rugby Final - an Aussie team won AND it took less than 10 mins to watch it :lol:

Seriously though - ignoring the schoolboy insults - how can a game that had 8 shots at goal (7/1) versus 8 shots at goal (6/2) not be boring.
That is 16 shots at goal - each took on average about 2 mins from the stoppage of play til the start of play - that is 32 minutes in an 80 minute game.
A couple of good trys - but 45 of the 65 points scored were from goals - that is 70% !! Come on??
Oh - that's right - I did say except for the "fanatic die-hards only"- LOL !!!
Give me the Chiefs versus the Lions in 2010 - now THAT was an exciting Rugby game - 72-65 !!
I watched that and I loved it. And I loved watching the OLD Brumbies - the running game - remember??
Hey England won a World Cup with that game plan - I blame Johnny Wilkinson

It was kind of fun as a one off, due to being such an oddity, but that was actually a really crap display of rugby, horrid tackling, sloppy play and comical errors littered the 80 minutes. I think it might still be up on youtube somewhere.

This. I watched the game and all I could imagine was both team's defensive coaches with their head in their hands definitely don't wanna see basketball-esque scoreline's become a regular thing in rugby!

Seriously though, I don't get what's wrong with both teams getting points from penalties? It's an aspect that I actually quite enjoy, though it does help when you support a team with a ridiculously accurate kicker in Halfpenny something satisfying about watching a long range penalty going over, and even more so with a tactical ding dong battle like this final was!
