I just had an idea. Why does SANZAR not apply the World Cup format to Super Rugby ? Pools, QF, SF, Final.
Thoughts?

I said this months ago. I think SR should adopt the World Cup, or as I said at the time European Cup format. I mentioned how it would allow for the domestic leagues to have more status and then be more inclusive for other countries as there would be draws for the group phase.

I could one group looking like,
Chiefs
Reds
Sharks
Suntory Sub Goliath
USA/Argentina team

I think the big difference between a competition like Super Rugby and the World Cup is that for the WC what really matters is the end result. Half the matches in the competition aren't worth watching (in the sense that 90% of the time there's only ever going to be one winner). In contrast, the end result is important in Super Rugby but equally as important are the matches themselves. So when I see a pool like the team above I don't get especially excited, because if that did eventuate then I wouldn't get to see the Chiefs play the Crusaders or the Highlanders etc.

Yep, the point above for me too.

I'd much rather ditch the terrible conference system and go to a single round robin. For all the travel it would still make a better comp. I'd even be happy if they got rid of the finals and semi's etc to be like the English prem - but I suppose without relegation it could make end of season a bit dull

I would love a league style without finals. It'd have meant the Stormers would've had a couple of trophies! IE it rewards consistancy rather than peaking (and/or having all your key players fit) at the right time.

On the travel thing I don't actually think it'd add that much more travel having a single round robin legue if I look at the Stormers' schedule for 2016 where we are flying all over SA, then to Argentina, then back to SA, then to Singapore and incredibly back to SA before we jet off to Aussie and back home again. Insane!

We have play-offs in the Aviva Premiership - unless you mean the football (soccer) premier league?
