Super League 'Slams' the Guiness Premiership

You can't say they slam them because on the whole the GP had a better percentage of their stadiums filled..

Engage Super League ( attendance/total capacity ):

71,713/129,039 = 55%

where as..

Guinness Premiership ( attendance/total capacity ):

59,346/84,402 = 70%

Dustin, total percentage capacity means nothing. Any competition could have all 8 000 seat stadia, fill them up with ease, and claim to have 100% capacity.

The number of people who attend is what counts.

I was just doing exactly the same thing, people seem to forget Most Guinness Premiership teams have their own grounds also they usually sell out the majority of their games... Whereas League have a lot of shared grounds...

Also remember tries aren't everything about Rugby, defence is the key part and the Guinness Premiership would show more defensive and set plays than what league would...

I am not slating league, both have their merits, League have a firm fan base as does Union, however Union's fan base expands to an International depth, with the International games of rugby which are occurring...

But alot of Guinness Premiership sides have their own stadiums, whereas the majority of league stadiums are shared...

Only in Australia mate. I know what you mean - sharing with a football team, but we have three teams that do that. Wigan, Hull, Huddersfield.

Is the number not the same in the GP?

What are the statistics for the English, French, Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh rugby league teams? 75,000 each? No?

Actually it is Officially only 2 teams, but if you want to be specific you could class Bristol as I believe they share with Bristol Rovers, due to the fact that Rovers are having a new ground developed... Also Sarries are meant to be moving to their own ground...

The Other two being Sarries and London Irish...

I thought Sale shared a ground with Stockport? And don't Wasps share with Wycombe?

I knew Sarries and Irish shared, I just wasn't sure. The thing with the shared stadiums is sure, they are shared, but they are fantastic stadiums. The KC Stadium, despite the fact Saints get drubbed every time we go near it, is one of the best in Britain.

I am not sure on Sale and Wasps...

All I know is the only decent stadium which is shared in the Guinness Premiership is the Madjeski Stadium, the rest are rubbish...

To be perfectly honest this Blog is stupid, it doesn't do justice to both sports... In the Modern world there is room for Both of them and they should be working together rather than against each other...

This Blog is trying to re-ignite an argument that has been going on since the start of time...

Unfortunately for League supporters they are gonna find their league ring fenced with the franchise system...

Very good overall club attendance for a sport that is often told it's on it's last legs/deathbed.
Yes... we know that Internationally other sports are far ahead of us but as more teams ie Wakefield, Salford, Castleford & Stains get new grounds... watch our weekly club attendance continue to grow.

Oh whoopie, more League vs Union cock waving...

At a domestic level, Union and League are about par. Yes, a fair percentage league clubs get better attendence then their union equivalents, but in some cases the grounds simply aren't big enough to accomidate demand for tickets (Gloucester, Bath & Leicester spring to mind).

A factor to remember this year is the 2nd biggest gate team in the country (Northampton) were relegated to be replaced by the lowest attended club (Leeds). Hardly a fair test. Especially as 2 weekends this season Saints have had the biggest attendence in the country despite being in ND1 (with 13,000 and 13,500 on each), easily hitting 11,000 each week.

I watched two league games this past weekend St Helens vs Warrington and Bradford vs Huddersfield

I then watched London Irish vs Leicester and Wasps vs Bath as far as entertainment value is concerned the Union games were far and asway more entertaining. Watching League is so boring. They simply go through the same repetitive phases every play and its so predictable. Ok there are more tries scored but who the hell really cares. There is so much more diversity in a union match and it is so much more back and forth. I saw some nice hands in the league matches and some nice ball movement but other than that it was indeed like watching paint dry. I introduced one of my friends who doesn't watch any sort of rugby to both codes and he preferred union way more its got so much more appeal.

The Bath vs Wasps game was fantastic and easily the best game out of those mentioned. Sadly games of that quality are extremely rare... take the dreadful fare being served up in the current 6Nations championship for example.

Oh for christ sakes guys, can't we all just get along?

Am I the only one other than my Dad and Brian Moore that likes both Union and League in equal measure?!

Seriously, it makes me want to get in a time machine and go back to the tumoultuous meeting between the Northern and Southern clubs before League was formed and slap them all with a wet kipper.
