Eina. This is going to be a tough game so early in the year. I just hope we don't end up losing another key player. With De Jongh back I hope we can get some more penetration mid-field. Sharks forwards didn't look at all the force they should be. Only Lambie has one over us against Van Aswegen. Scrums shouldn't go toooooo badly. Stormers by 8.

Anyone know if Peter Grant is back?

In any case, considering we look better on paper, and the Sharks looked a bit rusty last week and we're playing at home there is really no excuse to lose this one.

Go STOOOOORRRMMMMEEEERRRRSSS!

From the news this morning, both teams got good news...

Willem Alberts (bonecrusher) is fit for the clash and Jean de Jongh is also good to go...

So the Sharks pack is stronger, and the Stormers backs also...

TBH I think the Sharks would be better off without Alberts with a back three of Daniels, Botes and Coetzee with Alberts on the bench. Like Someoke said, no reason to lose this one. Just hope Van Aswegen has a more rounded game as I can't see AC rushing Grant back into the squad (though he is in Cape Town).

Sharks supporters, don't take me wrong here, this is not a biased Stormers reply.
I really think the Shark have some sort of an attitude problem. It is as if they don't pitch for certain games.
Last year they had a few of these games where with a different approach the game could have been in their favour.

The current captain and vice captain are known for a dubious disciplinary record and with Bismark it seems as if when he does not dominate, he looses a few IQ points and do stupid things, making his team suffers.

In my opinion, it starts at the top, Plumby refers too often to a lack of guts and commitment in the media, reminds me a bit of the ex French coach.
His contract will expire and they need someone with balls there, more like the Lions have if they insist on a foreign coach. The players need to fight for each other and earn and show internal respect. They have the potential to win this tournament.

I'm sorry, I loled at the irony of the bolded bit. :D

Otherwise you are spot on, if a little hesitant so as to not come across as subjective.

Picking the Stormers to take this one - largely due to their home-ground advantage. Should be a good game though.

What I would go with:
Chadwick, du PlessisB, du PlessisJ, Skeate, Bresler, Botes, Alberts, Coetzee; McLeod, Lambie, Mvovo, Whitehead, Pietersen, Ludik, Viljoen; Burden, Herbst, Marais/du Toit, Daniel, Michalak, Bosman, Jordaan.

Our loose forwards need a kick up the backside. Botes plays 100% every match and deserves a start. While I am not Alberts biggest fan, I think he would be a good player to select, especially with the Stormers' injuries in the loose forwards. Outside of Michalak, our backline wasn't too bad, and I'll give McLeod a shot (let's see how much I regret this...). Du Toit offers second row and back row coverage, while Marais is slightly more experienced.

I've always liked Botes - I'd prefer him over Daniel, but I'm sure they will stick with Daniel given he is captain. Alberts will be an asset - like you I'm not his biggest fan (I think he is a bit limited), but he does have the ability to create some good go-forward ball. Is Deysel still injured?

If Hoffman still around with the Sharks? I always thought he looked better than McLeod last season.

Deysel still off for a few weeks, Hoffman out for a long time.
I rate Botes highly, just look at how many tries he scores when he gets a chance

Going to be a cracker of a game

Some good news for the Stormers though it's old news i suppose;

De Jongh is set to play on the weekend (possibly off the bench but if one reads between the lines I think AC is set to field him at 13 with Habana at 11 and GvdH with the no.22 jersey) and Grant could be included as well. Elstadt is an outside chance but I'd like to see Etzebeth get a crack at knocking Alberts on his ass.

Stormers are really swimming in good locks at the moment; although inexperienced Elsatdt, Etzebeth, Roux are all quality while Steenkamp is a handy line-out lock to have as back-up for Bekker. Too bad we don't have the same quality in depth in other positions.

We're probably likely to see a line-up of

1 Steven Kitshoff
2 Tiaan Liebenberg
3 Brok Harris
4 Eben Etzebeth
5 Andries Bekker
6 Siya Kolisi
7 Duane Vermeulen
8 Nick Koster
9 Dewald Duvenhage
10 Gary van Aswegen
11 Habana
12 JdV
13 JdJ
14 Gio Aplon
15 Joe Pietersen aka Mini Percy

16 Frans Malherbe
17 Scarra Ntubeni
18 Rynhardt Elstadt / De Kock Steenkamp
19 Nizaam Carr / Rynhardt Elstadt
20 Louis Schreuder
21 Peter Grant
22 GvdH

Will try to catch this game, as I'm looking forward to seeing some more of Etzebeth and Kolisi. It will be good if the Stormers manage to get the ball wide this week, as the likes of de Jongh, Aplon, and Joe Pieterson can be lethal!

Kanko out for a month with a broken thumb, Mtawarira suffering from heart palpitations, Deysel still out. This will be a mediocre season at best with all the injuries. I don't expect a win this weekend but if we manage to get a bonus point, we already have 2 points without even playing in Durban.

Can't say I am genuinely disappointed unfortunately, looked to have something going in the last CC last year, but once off it seems.

Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has named his side to take on the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday. Kick-off is at 19h10.

Juan de Jongh returns to action in the No 13 jersey, with Bryan Habana returning to wing, Gerhard van den Heever dropping down to the bench and Burton Francis falling out of the match 22.

Peter Grant is back from Japan and will play off the bench with Gary van Aswegen retaining the No 10 jersey. Nizaam Carr is included on the bench for the injured Schalk Burger, with Siya Kolisi rewarded with a start in the No 6 jersey.
