Super 14 rugby player Shawn Mackay dies eight days after car accident, the 26-year-old Brumbies player was taken to hospital in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 29th 2009.
MacKay was involved in a road accident outside a busy Durban night club , he was injured in a collision with an armed response car in a Durban. No one has been prosecuted as there is a ingoing investigation to the collision.
Shawn Mackay was taken to Durban’s St Augustine’s Hospital where he was held for 8 days his condition was critically ill with multiple injuries.
Brumbies spokesperson Mr Nick Smith said that Mackay explained the cause of death after he suffered a heart attack . “He had a chest infection, that caused the cardiac arrest,â€
Shawn Mackay was born in Sydney Australia, the former 7s captain had signed a one-year contract for the Brumbies for the 2009 season.
The second row professional had six state caps for New South Wales Waratahs also spent five years with the Sydney Roosters Rugby League. Playing the all three games of rugby union, league and 7s shows the athletic nature of the Sydney rookie.
