Hey all, just been doing a quick run through of the Chiefs matches from the last three years against international teams, because I've always felt that the Chiefs do well against the SA teams but poorly against the Oz teams (in recent years anyway). Rather than throwing it in one of the match threads I thought we could get a bit of discussion going about interesting statistics and trends.

Onto the Chiefs:

v AUS teams
P13, W7, L6, D0
3BP

v RSA teams
P13, W10, L1, D2
12BP (!!!)

The Chiefs have only lost once to the South African teams in the three years since Rennie and co took over (2012), in a match against the Stormers in Cape Town (2013) where they lost by two points, but still managed to score four tries. In only two matches did they not get any bonus points, against the Sharks in Durban in 2012 and the Bulls in Hamilton in the same year. The Bulls are the only SA team to have played in Hamilton and not conceded four tries.

In contrast, the Chiefs have not beaten the Reds, and away from home have only beaten the Rebels and the Force. Only once did the Chiefs earn a four try BP, against the Rebels in Melbourne in 2013.

I think this is all pretty interesting - it's not unusual to be unbeaten against the SA teams in NZ, given the travel factor, but to perform so well in SA is pretty incredible!

This is the best one I've managed to find. Aren't too many others that I'm aware of.

that's pretty good for the season's stats, but I want to see all the historical records for each franchise
