Hi,

So this weekend i tuned into the match between Saracens vs London Irish. I happened to notice during a zoomed in image of Owen Farrell that a small squared tape patch sat under his right ear. This was the same for many of the backline and forwards. My question is what are these square patches? Microphones, Taping, or something else?

Thanks therugbyman

They are concussion monitoring patches. Monitors how much the head moves during impact.

Yeah Heally and Dalaglio were talking about them. Its all to do with the current theme of concussions.

Good. Rugby needs to do more regards concussion or we're going to end up with a lot of players with brain trauma issues down the line. It can't be taken lightly.

Agreed concussion is a severe problem and needs to be dealt with. Great to see something being done to prevent/detect it

Love the ***le - little bit of plaster behind the ear: "THE SAFFAS ARE AT IT AGAIN, DIRT CHEATING SALARY CAP AVOIDING BAR STEWARDS"

Am sort of disappointed in the content of this thread could have been so much better.

Sarries fined for having remote controlled players would have been better content wise.

Well I, for one, welcome our new rugby-playing cyborg overlords.

Meanwhile the PRL is getting suspicious after Saracens had increased the size of their coaching box:
