Toulon's sporting director Philippe Saint-Andre is set to land the French head coach post according to reports.

Does he know how to coach a team with French players?

Surely Guy Noves would be the perfect man for the job.

edit: ^damn, beat me to it^

Galthie or Noves would have been better choices but it remains to be seen if they wanted the job.

I've never been impressed with Saint Andre as a coach. He always struck me as a chequebook manager who achieved results because he assembled an expensive squad rather than through good coaching ability.

Thing about France is there game should be played with nice flair etc and Noves is the man for that.
His style of coaching would be perfect but after being overlooked last time and possibly now again I think the men in suits must have a problem with him that is totally unrelated to rugby matters and well that is the reason he isn't being considered.

What's PSA going to do when he can't just buy in a load of "superstars" into the team?

dreadful decision, his teams play a really boring style of rugby and now as a fan I'm not going to be seeing the French backs running at their best for four years

I expect he'll select the most boring XV with the likes of Traille, Chabal in it and drop the exciting players such as Harinordoquy and Médard

I remember with Sale he put Hodgson at 15 just to kick to the opposite end for a season, I can see him doing the same with Traille

That's not good news. However I cannot believe Harinordoquy and Médard will not be on the French team if healthy.

The terrible thing is, he's probably being paid less my France than by Toulon.

Novès refused the job. He said he didn't want to leave a project he has devoted 35 years to.

At least in PSA we have a man that has always accomplished his goals and he arrives with an armoire full of silverware... not.

Anyone can achieve what PSA did if they had the backing like he did. I think any coach worth their salt would've got alot more out of Toulon than he has.

I don't care for the coaching selection, but I'm not going to argue about it. I also wouldn't worry about Harinordoquy or Médard making the squad. If the fans don't first, then the French press would certainly have too much fun prodding the life out of the coach if he excluded them.
