"After two seasons with French club Montpellier, Ranger has gained an early release from his contract. He will return home mid-year and prepare for the NPC with North Harbour â€" and then rejoin the Blues in 2016."

HUGE news for the Blues and North Harbour (apparently playing for Harbour over Northland so his family can be in one place).

Next year slot him back in at 13 for the Blues.

God news for Super Rugby

:D:D:D

A shame he will miss the WC

Good news for the Blues. However very strange choice for Ranger. He's 28 years old now, this was his best shot to play in a RWC. I'm not even sure how many more games the All Blacks will give him considering the growing talent in midfield which will likely be apart of their plans for 2017 and 2019. Still, fantastic he is back - played the season of his life for the Blues before leaving.

Realistically I dont think he's ever been the smartest cookie in the packet..... Just pure stupidity to not of stayed until after the WC.

He had already signed the contract before he had that great season and burst into AB's contention. If he was in NZ this year then he would be a lock for the World Cup.

And boy could the Blues do with him.

But then again, the Blues could do with a lot of things, and not just as far as the simple play/coach realm is concerned, but that's another story.

Agreed - was this a reply to my post or austingtir? I found it more strange he was coming back, I certainly agree that he was unfortunate leaving when he did and I believe he tried to get out of his contract with Montpelier.

he has family problems back home apparently father is in prison plus other things, never saw eye to eye with Galthie and never really produced anything for himself or Montpellier, in fact i would go as far as to say he was not a good signing for Montpellier and never played to the standard that everyone expected of him, not sure he setttled in France and did have tremendous problems with the language plus a very young child, was not for himl i guess.........
