As some of you from Queensland may know a University of Queensland player suffered a heart attack during a tackle during the game against Ashgrove GPS yesterday, unfortunately today he passed away.

I had the honor of playing against Halley for three years, including two semi finals against him. This is a tragic death that came about from a pure freak accident with the tackle being legitimate and by most regards safe this is just an unfortunate turn of events that lead to the death of a 21 year old.

The rugby community of Queensland will no doubt be in shock and I believe all clubs will wear black armbands next weekend in commemoration of Halley and in celebration of his life.

Condolances to Halleys family. Its just so sad and unfair.

I remember watching a guy take a knock to the head in a game once. I didnt think much of it at the time as I assumed he'd recover but he didnt, he later passed.

Its one of the dark sides to the sport that rarely happens but does happen.

RIP; hope his family and friends are doing well. Read that James O'Connor spoke well about the lad. Also hope the person who made the tackle on Halley is doing well, he must be in an awful place at the moment.

It's believed that he had a spinal injury and bleeding in his brain, a terrible day for Queensland Rugby :( He was a great guy left whatever happened on the field and was great for drinks afterwards.

R.I.P. My condolences go out too his family and friends, very sad news!

Second bloke from Nudgee College class of 2007 to die in a freak accident, RIP

Horrible loss thoughts are with his family and friends

Begs the question how hard was he hit for such devastating injuries to occur and how can it be prevented from happening again....In my opinion its a freak accident that cant be helped :/

The hit wasn't all that hard, it was just an awkward tackle that unfortunatly ended in the death of such a young man.

In 30 minutes his funeral will commence and tomorrow all Queensland Rugby teams both League and Union will wear black armbands to remember this young man.

My thoughts and prayers are with Halley and his Family.

The Wallabies will as well.

Often hits and tackles can aggravate existing heart conditions, sadly a Gridiron Football player at my high school died at a practice after getting hit, in 1997. Once again the tackle was a perfectly legitimate move and the player was quite young very devastating for the team.

I'm not entirely sure if it was a heart condition, they believe it may have been bleeding in the brain and spinal fractures whatever the reasons it was a terrible accident and a tragic outcome for someone who was enjoying playing Premier grade rugby.

Occasionally you hear about the odd paralysis incident, from a head to head collision but this is very sad. Another reminder that bad things can happen any time someone takes the pitch.
