Hey everyone,
My names James and I'm new to this forum. I'm born and bred in New Zealand so of course, I'm a HUGE fan of our national game. I played rugby growing up in one of the grassroots regions of NZ (The West Coast). Growing up I represented the West Coast in Under 13 and 15. We usually played games against Canterbury (Christchurch Based) and got hammered but it was all good fun. I had to stop playing rugby when I was 16. Injuries kept coming my way unfortunately and then the worst one happened when playing a friendly game of league on the school field where my wrist got dislocated. It wasn't all bad though. The guy who tackled me is now playing for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL Competition so he's a tough bugger haha.
Growing up I used to love watching the All Blacks and all the provincial teams in NZ. My favorite team as a youngster was the Canterbury Crusaders. Mehrtens, Marshall, Blackadder, Jack etc were always good to watch. As I got older I remember watching a game and thinking to myself that Mehrtens wasn't as good as he used to be. Ultimately I started hating the Crusaders for that and too this day don't follow them. It's kinda hard considering the success they have had but I like change and seeing new talent rise through the ranks. Watching the Queensland Reds win their first Super Rugby Trophy last year was a fantastic sight. Definitely the best team won. Great work by the Aussies in that one! (That was hard to say)
So here's to a great year for rugby! I'm hoping the All Blacks have a cracker of a year. I'm heading to the first Super Rugby game this weekend in Auckland with the Blues playing the Crusaders and that one should be an absolute ripper. If any of ya's tune in, just look for the handsome guy wearing a Blues Shirt!
Will be good chatting to you all.
Cheers,
James.
