Biarritz
And so we are at the penultimate stage of the League on this gloriously wet bank holiday week end here in France (it is on the 1st May and not the first Monday in May) where all the shops are shut so we just go the 9 miles across the Border to Spain to fill up on fuel and food.........(85p for a litre of diesel and just under £1.50 for nearly a kilo of sweet, sweet strawberries)...is that why so many Springboks, Pacific Islanders and Australasians love it here?!!!

Biarritz can make a big move against 13th placed Montauban and then watch Albi and Aurillac both lose away to USAP and MdM respectively. A win and two losses here, which are the likeliest outcome, would leave BO only.....yes only....having to play their last game in the regular season at Dax knowing that their play off future would be in their own hands. It was this, and only this, possibility thatbrought me out of my deep melancholy this week!!!

Bourgoin (13th) can beat Beziers at home and that would leave the 14th and 15th placed clubs, Narbonne and Dax to fight it out at Narbonne with Dax presently desperately needing the win as they are two points adrift with Biarritz to come next week....

Interesting times!!

so who's going up Tony with Pau, i personally think it will be USAP, but i prefer Mont de Marsan another Montpellier 2nds, the most interesting is who will be coming down with Lyon, Montpellier are one place off the TOP 6 and just 4pts ahead of 13th placed Bayonne who we play next week after the "ALL FRENCH CHAMPIONS CUP FINAL (again how boring the 5th i believe,) this afternoon.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough one to call as so many permutations!!

Perpignan will be favourites if they get home advantage but their away form not great. They have to play Albi and Agen yet!!

MdM could well be there but they also have a couple of tough games!

Despite themselves, I really do think Biarritz should make the play offs and who knows what will happen in one off games! What is the betting against referees and officials wearing clothes from 15 shops if BO go up!!!!!!!

Biarritz Olympique 26 - 17 Montauban

Bourgoin 49 - 7 Béziers

Massy 23 - 18 Tarbes

Mont-de-Marsan 27 - 3 Stade Aurillacois

Great result for MdM and, consequently, for BO as Aurillac fall 4 points behind them after their win and Aurillac's loss!! Interestingly MdM's win puts into second and five points ahead of Perpignan (who play Albi so go USAP) and three ahead of Agen who play away to Colomiers who BO should have beaten last week!!

Bourgoin's win means they are safe and that Massy are relegated and the final place is between Narbonne and Dax who face up to each other tomorrow.

Half time in the last three matches of the round and clarity is coming....although would add this is only half time and results could change and affect things yet today!!

Promoted: Pau

Play offs Probable - MdM, USAP, Agen and Biarritz

Relgated: Massy and probably Dax

Looks like its down to the last day next week Tony, will Pau do Albi a favour and send a weak team Agen v Usap and BO travel to Dax who are down and out, brilliant win by Albi happy for Ugo Mola as he is a very good guy and have worked with him when he was with Canal+ so could be interesting i presume they all KO at the same time as in last day of TOP 14.

With only the Pau match to come (which will have no effect on the table), Perpignan threw in the towel and lost their unbeaten home record with a limp second half to allow Albi to take the win!

This leaves, at present, Biarritz now in 6th place (and out of the play offs) behind Albi on some basis that I am not sure of as BO have the better points difference plus USAP now facing an away trip next week to Agen needing to win to avoid a replay with them in the semi final of the play offs (presuming MdM beat Beziers away next week).

Perpignan have won only three away games (out of 13 so far) so today's result could be a disaster for them in the context of promotion and like Pau n the past (and probably against Albi next week) this has done no favours for Biarritz either.

Generally used system of points difference does not apply in France where...................

"If two or more teams are tied at the end of the regular phase, their rankings will be determined taking into account the following factors. Each factor is taken into account if one preceding it failed to separate the teams and prioritization:

- Number of field points obtained in all meetings between them opposite the relevant team (including appropriate bonus points and penalty points);
- Goal average on all meetings between the teams concerned;
- Greater difference between the number of tries scored and conceded in all meetings between the teams concerned;
- Goal average over all matches in the competition;
- Bigger difference between the number of tries scored and conceded in all matches in the competition;
- Highest number of points scored in all matches in the competition;
- Highest number of tries scored in all matches in the competition; "

...and two others I do not understand

What a disappointing performance by USAP, most fans were really ****** off, based on the comments I read on Facebook. It looks really bad now. :(

@Tony: The last factor is:
The position reached in the previous season of the French championship

I don't understand the last but one either. Something about number of forfeited matches if there was no general forfeit of the competition?

Not as p**sed off at the USAP performance as the Biarritz fans who were robbed of a near enough definite play off place and have it all to do and rely on others next week!!!!

Conspiracy theories abound on the recent results of both USAP and Pau who could be said to want BO (or is it just Blanco) to stay down!!!!

Could USAP have made a BIG mistake? A loss away this weekend and win for BO, could see the latter leapfrog the former in the fight for qualification in the final match!!!!

Hi all , was at the Stade Aime Giral at the weekend and there is NO WAY Usap are going anywhere this year !!! In truth they have flattered to deceive all year . Agen will absolutely smash them this weekend . The last two games , usap have employed a touch tackle defensive system which isn't working very well !!!!!!
For the record , Albi looked decent at the weekend and have hit a bit of form at the right time .

On a personal note , i'd love BO to stay down , such a beautiful place to visit next season :mad: !!!!!!!!!

Except that USAP probably shot themselves in the foot here. That was far too risky for them given their poor form away from home.
