I think this is a good move, Pienaar showed some great potential in the S14 at 10, especially in the Chiefs game. Hopefully he grabs this opportunity so he can secure some game time at international level. The scrumhalf stocks in SA are extremely healthy, and yet again found wanting at flyhalf.
Developing Pienaar at 10 will give us very dynamic options for the future. Grant - the confrontational and hard tackling flyhalf; Pienaar - the elusive running and tactical kicking flyhalf; and Morne Steyn - the most well rounded flyhalf in SA

I can't help but get excited about the position Springbok rugby is in at the moment!

Nice choice i think. I always like Pienaar. He has a real vision for the game. Looking forward to seeing him in action... Now if only Chavhanga will get a re-call...

Well The Boks currently have an overflow of "Great" scrum - and - flyhalves and combinations to pick from.

We have:
Pienaar - James
Pienaar - Frans Steyn
du Preez - Morne Steyn(should become a Bok in the near future)
du Preez - James
Conradie/Januarie - Grant

ect,ect...

Ruan Pienaar at flyhalf for the Boks...maybe against Argentina yes,but against the Allblacks and Aussies I think we should keep James at no.10 and with du Preez returning again I feel that they should be the 1st choice 9 - 10 combination for the Boks.

Meyer Bosman is also an option at 10 when he comes back from injury.

I miss Henri Honiball. :( Anyway, on a side-note, I just read that Ellis Park is now changing it's name to Coca-Cola Park. So 100 years of history vanishes in the wake of a 45 million rand deal. *SIGH*

I miss Henri Honiball. :( Anyway, on a side-note, I just read that Ellis Park is now changing it's name to Coca-Cola Park. So 100 years of history vanishes in the wake of a 45 million rand deal. *SIGH*

I think we all miss good ol Honiball. I've said this before but I reckon Grant is quite similar to him.

BTW if people in the biggest city in SA got their act together and went out supported their team this wouldn't of happened!

I don't even support the Lions but i'm at a lot of their games. :( I think location is also a big factor. Leaving your car there is a risk... Walking back to it is a risk... It's all poverish and full of non-swimmers there. They should scrap the whole place and build a brand new one in the north. :)

That's true, I've read on a couple SA rugby forums that the safety issue is a huge problem. Personally I don't feel safe anywhere in Jhb, except the north.

BTW Cairo is the biggest city in Africa, Jo'burg is 6th or something :p

Lol ok, I always thought the population used to fill up seats, but if you dig the sprawls that's cool too

Well, i don't rate how fat a person is by how many hairs they have on their bodies. I look at how much space they take up. lol.

Anyway, you think Steyn won't get another shot as a starting 10? When is the starting line-up going to be announced?

If common sense is that common, then no I don't think we should be seeing Steyn starting at 10 again this year. Maybe in the end of year tour, which has become a bit of a "ohh what happens if I push this button!" exercise. I remember Steyn playing a different position every game in the last tour 2 years ago. Unfortunately not much has changed.

Going by PdV's trend we'll probably see the starting line on Thursday, however keo.co.za keeps a close eye on the training sessions and predicts the right selections more often than not.

Is Pienaar really the future for South Africa at fly-half? If he isn't then is there any point in him playing there? Surely he is more of a full-back or scrum-half than a fly-half.

Would be interesting to see. He is a great player. But I'd prefer Steyn on Fly Half.

Eddie Jones and Dick Muir think he is. His distribution and vision are superb, and he has the best kicking game next to Percy imo.
Search for Kankowski's try against the Chiefs on youtube to see a snippet of his elusive running and vision on the field. He's done stuff like that for the Sharks all the time. With a father like Springbok legend Gysie Pienaar are you really suprised! :D

Pienaar is great. I think he has fantastic potential. He has everything a good rugby player needs, and i'm holding thumbs.... Hope he impresses like we know he can.

No I'm not surprised :p Especially with his eye-brows. He is an amazing player, such skill and running lines is brilliant. Just wanted to know from South Africans who have seen his growth rate him as their fly-half for the 2011 World Cup.
