According to Twitter, Ulster prop Paddy McAllister is out for the season after tearing ligaments. Big loss, I was hoping this would be a break through season for him.

Just after establishing himself as the bench tighthead as well. Hopefully someone else steps up.

EDIT: Was half paying attention thought it was Fitzpatrick. Pity maybe we should loan Ed Byrne to them.

promising irish tighthead?? has to be made of glass

He's primarily a loosehead. Still a big loss. Was clearly Ulster's 2nd best player at the position but could have challenged Tom Court as the season progressed.

Thank god. All that tighthead stuff had me well put out. It's Macklin on the other side surely?

This leaves Ulster with a pretty big problem. They're very well set on the TH side with Afoa and Fitzpatrick having shown themselves up to Heineken Cup standard (the latter being able to lock down the scrum at the least) and Adam Macklin pushing through behind them. However, with Court likely to miss large parts of the season with international duty who do they have left on the loosehead side. Callum Black?

John Afoa is equally capable at loosehead as tighthead (I actually prefer him there), maybe an option with Fitzpatrick at tighthead?

Possible, but I'd imagine that Fitzpatrick will be involved in the Irish squad for the November games at the very least (I fancy Hagan to push him out soon, Leinster signings usually come one massively in the second season). In that case, they're still stuck. I suppose Macklin could come in and Afoa could shift to the Loose side.

Callum Black will be Ulster's backup loosehead although I'm sure if anything happens Tom Court, the IRFU would like to see John Afoa shift across to loosehead so that Declan Fitzpatrick can get more games at tighthead.

Beyond Black, Kyle McCall is next in line at 1.

Does anyone know who the loosehead for Methody last year was? Came up against him and saw him play in the final he's a bit of a beast. Probably a bit earlier but does anyone know if he's involved with Ulster.

Extra stuck, as I imagine they'll have Court away too. Which leaves us probably with

1. Afoa 3. Macklin 17. Black 18. Lutton

To the best of my knowledge - there's been a thread clear up on the Ulster forums so I'm going from memory - their loosehead this season was a 5th year named Michael Lagan, who played in the Ulster U18 friendly last week against Lancashire U18s. If he is the lad you're thinking of, then given his age, it might be ok to allow a few moments of excitement. However, iirc, I believe he was in due to injury to a lad called Ross Kane, who's fairly highly thought of, so it might be him. He's represented Ulster too. Think it was Lagan in the final mind. But yeah. One of those two.

I'm nearly sure I know who it is (in my year, I got to CCB though), he's only going into lower sixth this year so I doubt he is right now, his name is Michael Lagan.
