Former England number eight Dean Ryan has join Welsh strugglers Newport Gwent
Dragons as a coaching consultant.

Good decision by the Dragons. Although it would be better just to sack Edwards and make Ryan head coach.

A very knowledgeable man on rugby matters is our Ryan but not sure about his ability to inspire player's loyalty and enthusiasm.................always liked his work ethic and discipline though.

Guess it could be read as a first step back into management whilst retaining his Sky job but as the Sky job is likely to disappear at the end of the season he could then translate "consultant" to "manager"!.

Would have liked to have seen him, Horgan and Greenwood with perhaps Quinnell transfer with the rugby to BT but hope that the rest retire to wherever ex rugby players disappear to...after dinner circuit?

Edwards' contract runs out soon, I think the end of next season.
Good move, I think (hope) he will call things the way they are can chop off some of the dead wood.

We pretty much need a fresh start, could be a good man to take control.

Dragons did well to get Dean Ryan. Choking in knockout matches aside, he had a pretty good record as Gloucester coach getting them to top the Premiership table a couple of times.

Better option than the likes of Welsh coaches Kingsley Jones or Sean Holley in my opinion, who are both the kind of coaches I'd assume the Dragons would go for tbh, surprised they have managed to get a good coach with a decent record.

Choking in a knockout match would be an improvement right now!
Now can we bring in Robinson for the forwards and Davies for the backs? Dragons HEC 2014 starts now! You knowz it.

I wonder whether Dean Ryan will be able to teach Chavhanga to tackle?

I think Edwards is a good coach, but it's perhaps a complacency thing more than anything else. They needed someone new to come in, and hopefully Ryan can do the job.

I think he is a decent bloke, but this is just too much for him.
I'd like to see a bit of a cull, we need some new blood in.

Jonathan Evans is a nippy little bugger isn't he? He will have to fight Cobus Reinach for a spot in the Draggs' nipper XV.

Doesn't matter. Scores tries. ;)

Not been scoring many this season.

Hopefully from the Dragons POV, Dean Ryan will be able to recruit wiser than the awful recruitment efforts of the Turner and now Edwards regimes.

Turner simply kept signing semi permanent crocked Kiwis such as Willis, Castle, MacDonald, Lee, Hall. And Edwards has kept on signing an abundance of wingers and allowed the front five to become simply dire.

Why money and a NWQ spot was wasted on Chavhanga when the Dragons already had two good wingers in Brew and Harries, whilst the front five was simply woeful is beyond me. And then in the off season, Edwards signs Dan Evans and Tom Prydie, decent players, and added a good depth to the back three options, but the Dragons shouldn't have recruited in those positions. They needed to sort out their front five, before spending on increasing depth on already good wingers.

The money spent on Chavhanga should have been spent on a player better than Tim Ryan who barely even plays for them.

They really should have done everything in their power to sign Craig Mitchell when he became available, he would have certainly been of more value than Chavhanga. They were interested (http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/sport/8851627.Dragons_in_for_Mitchell/) but didn't get him in the end.

They missed their chance there, and now the only possible Welsh tighthead who might be available for them is Cai Griffiths, who would probably be an improvement on Dan Way to be fair.

We really are set for outside backs right now.
Give us some damn props though!

It has been suggested that Chavhanga will be leaving Newport at the end of the season by the way.

Money saved on his wages MUST be spent on front row.
