So i leave the gorgeous sunny coastline of west Wales for what is soon to turn to winter in the south Island of New Zealand.
I fly day after tomorrow (29th) and am setting up my new home in Queenstown.
My question to all who may know the answer is this:

I have often heard (from no one in particular) that New Zealand has a rugby CHANNEL! Now if this is true, i'm ecstatic. But i'm also curious as to whether or not i will be able to watch this.
I'm renting a room when i move there. I don't care where i sleep as long as i've got a roof over my head and a place to keep my stuff. However, it occured to me as i arrive on Friday that this rugby channel is probably a subscription channel. I know you guys have sky over there, is all super rugby only shown on those channels or if my home simply has a tv and nothing fancy will i be able to watch any games?

So my question, in a nutshell is: What do i need to watch super rugby and to obtain this magical rugby channel when i arrive?

Cheers guys!

Yes the rugby channel is a subscription channel....sign up to sky...then choose the rugby channel package. It is the only channel that they show overseas rugby on. Super rugby has delayed coverage of a couple of games a week on Prime TV which is free.

Ohh kay. You need basic sky to watch every Super Rugby match. They will be on Sky Digital (most places will have it), on channels 30-32. You will also be able to see every RWC match on those two as well (to my knowlege) as well as several rugby shows which include Re-Union, Northern Exposure, Total Rugby and Rugby Center. Channel 33 will show all the Highlights of Rugby matches on a circut, so once every 4-5 hours a half hour highlights will come up. They're the standard ones. Now, the Rugby Channel is for some of the extra stuff (that I can't afford), so you get a small variety of T14, Magners League, Aviva Premiership and H-Cup stuff on that channel, as well as constant replays, grass roots rugby, First XV rugby, Japan Pro League and other rugby interest shows.

They also broadcast every S15 in pubs with is cool as you can eat, drink and have fun there. I watched nearly every chiefs game ( 2009 season) in a pub and made plenty of friends.

The Rugby Channel is a subscription channel, AND you have to already have Sky Digital with a package that includes the Sports Channels.

The Subscription for the Rugby Channel is about $2.50 per week on top of your Sky Sport package

Thanks guys, you've been a brilliant help.
As of this moment i have neither a place to live or a job, but when i had to get my priorities: see if i can find a place to live that has rugby fans already living there, already with sky and subscribed to the rugby channel.
It's quality to know i can catch a few games on Prime TV, which is free, plus i had the pub primarily in mind for my first few weeks until i settled down, no doubt!

Much appreciated guys!!!

Hah! Yeah, here's hoping my savings (what little there is of it) can hold me until i get a job. I'm near the ski slopes so i hope i'll find something with the winter period fast approaching and i pray i can find a roof over my head fast.

My god, your only two hours up the road from me! Here I was thinking we NZ'ers were safe from the likes of you. :)

Invercargill is only 2 hours away from you?
You've just doomed yourself to organise a meet up with me then, Bro!

Choice! And all those funny things you NZers like to say.
