sorry i dont really follow south african rugby.. but why isnt andre pretorius playing for the lions...? is he injured.. out of form out of favour.. or are the other fly halfes better...? i really like pretorius tbh he is a good creative player

Well, due to his kicking, The Lions have missed out on several wins. Elton Jantjies is a 20-year old talent who is also not having his best year kicking-wise and last weekend Burton Francis had a much better kicking average against the Stormers. Pretorius is, in my opinion, a highly over-rated fly-half

ahhh i know about jantjies.... i would personally spread the game time between him and pretoriosue cuz i thionk his creativity and spark just adds something

That might be true but if you have a weekly kicking average of 60% or lower, there is not a lot of room for errors. In Super Rugby, matches are won or lost on conversions in some cases.

couldnt he be fitted in somewhere else like fullback or centre that way his creativity is still used but his goal kicking isnt that much of a problem./...?

Well, for fullback they have Jaco Taute and for the centre position they van La Grange and Murray who are much better in attack than Pretorius.

Pretorius was injured for the Stormers clash, my guess is that this week we will see him on the bench for the game against the Chiefs, whilst Jantjies will play in the Vodacom Cup quaterfinal, assuming the latter game is this week of course

Edit: Never noticed the post above, flair you say...
I have heard many 'colourful' words describing Andre Pretorius, but flair is not one of them ^_^

Since 2007, when he has played a few games in a row, he is a solid fly-half, nothing more nothing less, does the business, kicks the kicks and moves on, average pace, average distribution, somewhat decent kicking- A substitute if there ever was one

for the boks...? i highly doubt ti .. considerin youve got steyne probs the most accurate kicker in the world if not one of them and lambie :L

Just because Steyn is a good kicker, doesn't make him necessarily the nr. 1. Times in which a fly half only needed to kick, are behind us. Peter Grant and Patrick Lambie are better options in my opinion because of their better playing skills.

totally agree, I like Ruan Pienaar as a fly half but his goal kicking isn't great though, so I would probably have Peter Grant

i was referring to Butch James as the Lions 1st choice flyhalf, but he is injured...

with regards to SA no1 flyhalf.....def Lambie or Ruan Pienaar like you said...i still felt Ruan was SA 1st running flyhalf..but they went for "a win at cost" flyhalf in Steyn!!!

Steyn for me is the worst flyhalf in the world!!!

If they play Lambie they might win the WC...if they play Steyn..the WC belongs to NZ ;) that is what i'm hopping on

Pienaar has goal-kicking as a bonus asset since he is a scrum half. He can also play full-back and fly-half which makes him the perfect player to have in your squad. Lambie can play fly-half, centre and full back and has improved his kicking enormously these last few months which makes him the perfect fly-half to guide us to the final in september.

He's not injured, just still at Bath and will only come at the end of the English domestic season, however the end result is the same

We may see him being the first choice fly-half when he comes, which would be quite unfortunate :(
