Anyone else see today's stage?
What an incredible ride by Tony Martin!
174.999 km in front in a 175km race.
Couldn't believe the finish.
Who'd have thought it, a Manx-man who's a fan of cycling
Anyone think this event is just better than Le Tour? The tour is great no doubt but I feel like this year everyone knew Froome was going to in and it just became a bit of procession with some interesting sub plots. The Vuelta seems to have far more mountains, a far better balance with GC contenders and just keeps my interest better. It seems more of a free for all rather than the tour which almost seems staged just because of the predictability of the whole thing with the way the teams ride.
I prefer the TDF coverage by a mile.
This year I think there were too many mountain stages introduced, in an attempt to stop SKy from winning (of course, the machine that is Chris Froome being ably pulled up every climb by Richie 'the little engine that could' Porte, put paid to that notion)
Also think the Vuelta just doesn't have the excitement (barring Tony Martin's race the other day) for me, lot's of the top riders don't bother with it as they target the TDF, and it seems monotonous with the climbs being so severe/regular that there is hardly any sprinting going on.
Also not so keen on the fact the marshalls dont appear to have checked the roads for potholes/bricks as the peloton arrives, resulting in crashes like the one from Dan Martin yesterday.
I missed today's race, will watch the highlights before the live stage tomorrow.
