Surprised No-one has posted anything about this, well couldnt find anything anyway.

who here has played the game and what do they think?

I have currenlty finished the main story and just finished all the side cases. I will probably take my time and try find all the film reels now (anyone else think they are hard to find, they dont even look like anything, and just blend into the background)

I really enjoyed the game, it was quite different to what I expected, didnt feel like you could do anything like you could on GTA but thats not a bad thing. Alot of it felt a bit scripted, like the chasing and jumping sequence, all you needed to do was make sure you were going in the right direction.

Ill finish the game off then ill probably sell or trade it in. Shouldnt take too long to finish, thanks to the social club.

I enjoyed it. Thought it was a pretty good story. While you can drive around freeroam GTA style I didn't feel the urge to explore as much as I did on GTA and Red Dead Redemption.

I found that if you aren't listening and taking notes in your head then interrogating people was tough to get them to open up, so you'd miss places to visit in the game. I did do 2 playthroughs though to get Platinum (second playthrough was bit more enjoyable cos I understood it better and recognised characters names, so it all made 'more' sense).

I didn't find ONE film reel through the first play and had to resort to a guide. The Drive all cars trophy is a pain in the ass too cos when you only have 4 or 5 left it's real difficult to find them cos many look so samey.

A good game though and while it has no replay value after you platted it, the main story is too long for a rental.

Ah this reminds me, I haven't played this in ages since my exams have finished. I was really getting into it before I had to knuckle down with revision so I completely forgot I had it. I don't really know what to make of it. Sometimes the missions are exciting and the crimes are complex and riveting, yet others seem really mundane and confusing. From what I can seem to remember the last mission I was on was the one where the car with the young actress and another woman has crashed into a billboard on top of a hill opposite the station.

Sometimes I found it incredibly predictable, but then other times I couldn't work out how to approach some suspects with the whole truth/doubt/lie system. I don't mean that I didn't understand or wasn't listening, because I got overly into it, but sometimes doubting someone wasn't strong enough, but then accusing them of lying was too strong even though the difference in what Cole actually says doesn't actually seem to be that much.

I'll play it again tomorrow and see what I think!

yeh thats what I found. If at any time you have to accuse them of lieing then you need to provide evidence (so if you ain't got it then don't) but sometimes found it hard whether to doubt/truth them. If you found some sort of motive (with no evidence to provide) then doubt them even if you think he/she are innocent. On first playthrough I interviewed loads of people and came out with 1 of 5 (or whatever) questions answered correct. On the second playthrough things made a bit more sense and was getting 5 of 5 and the information given could lead to the case being shorter cos you have more contacts to follow on.

But yeh don't bother accusing someone of lieing unless you have proof on you. And if you do accidentally accuse them you can back out with circle and apologise.

I can't find anything on IMDB of these credits but I'm 100% positive that one guy in there is the police bloke from Heroes who can read minds (looks exactly like him and sounds like him) and the mission you're on now fullback, the guy is Artz from Lost (the one who blew himself up with dynamite). But when I checked they seem to be uncredited.

Yeah they are definitely in the game. Also some of the other characters were pretty recognizable as well like daisy from bones.

Was tempted to get this but after reading this thread and a few reviews, it doesn't sound like the type of game I'd get in to. Might have to hire it first.

The problem with hiring LA Noire is the story alone takes 25hrs +. Not sure how much it costs to rent over there 187 but once you started it you will want to finish at least the story. So it could be expensive to rent but it's expensive to buy for a game with not much replay value.

Best scenario is lend it off your mate if possible. I lent my copy out to a couple of buddies and they loved it. I'm not much of a trader inner, in fact I'm not at all. Still got Fifa 08,09,10, TigerWoods 09,10,11, UFC 09,10, Fight Nights, Heavy Rain etc all games that should of been traded in lol.

i bought my copy yesterday after completing Red Dead Redemption, just finished the second case of the guy faking his own death with a plumbing pipe. so far i can't wait to go home to see what happens next.

i absolutely loved Red Dead Redemption and the start of LA Noire was enough to hook me.

i only recently started to play games other than Sport games on console. which started end of last year with Assasins Creed. This year I played Assasins Creed 1 & 2, still need to get brotherhood. Red Dead Redemption, FIFA 11, UFC 2010 and now LA Noire... if studying wasn't taking up so much of my time after work, i'd most probably played more and could've be more involved with this thread. but now i'm actually glad i put in my 2 cents so early before you guys reveal too much and spoil the game for me... haha

hehe well we tactfully haven't revealed any spoilers like you did in your first paragraph :p

I think though one of the issues with LA Noire that has lead to so many mixed reviews is because many people thought it was going to be 'GTA but you're a cop', and it simply isn't like that. It is essentially a very linear storyline dressed in a faithfully recreated LA from the 50s. Beyond the main missions there isn't actually that much to do apart from the radio missions, but they are either: chase someone or shoot people.

I personally have had a lot of fun with this game. When my older brother and his girlfriend were round this weekend we all sat around playing it in the evening for a few hours, and it was surprisingly fun to solve as a committee, and unless it was an action sequence you never really feel that left out. If you take it for what it is and don't look at it as another GTA, then I think everyone will find this fun, but sadly once the campaign is completed there isn't a lot to do.

I have pretty much finished the whole game. Finished the main story, got to go back and finish the cases with a 5* now, got all the newspapers, and all the film reels (now that sucked, not easy to find at all) all the landmarks (had 90% of them after finishing the game) all teh street crimes and all teh vehicles (that was a hard one too)

just a couple of things to go then i got my only second platinum ever!

Vehicles is definitely the hardest trophy. Did you do the film reels without a guide? (cos WOW that would be fecking hard!) I had trouble finding some reels with guide, 2 photos per reel (on guide) showing where they were AND mini map location and still took me ages to find them.

You got easy trophies left now woosaah.

haha yeah, shouldnt take too long to finish off the game. My wife was away all week last week so that helped :)

i had to use a guide for the reels, there is no way and i mean NO WAY that you would be able to get them without a guide. I used the one on teh social rockstar page though. Needed a guide for about the last 20-25 vehicles as when i was playing i would make an effort to jump in any car i could find. id jump in every car in every car park (as long as tehy looked kinda different) Still near on impossible without the guide as some you could only get on certain missions or they were super rare.

i will finish it and then lend it to a mate, when he is done ill trade it in (hopefully in time for rugby :) )

Mate! You could start your own video store! Haha. To rent a new release game round here it's about $6 I think for like 2 or 3 nights. I would usually rent a game first to see if I like it before I go buy it. Unless it's a game I'm dying to play. Last game I bought without trying first was Red Dead Redemption. Next game I buy before I try will be Rugby 2012 & All Blacks challenge!

That's cheap for rental - Worth a look before you buy.

Yeh I can't see much point of trading games in cos Fifa 10 in Game is going for £3.00 so you're not gonna get much money trading it in. I suppose it all adds up but you'd need lots of games to trade to make a dent to buy a new game. And when it comes time to trade that in it will be worth very little...

well i have finished L.A. Noire, thankfully.

I dont think ill be playing this one again, and i dont think ill buy a game like this again, though it was fun it really wasnt my type of game. Lending it to a mate then I am trading it in for a cheaper rugby game :)

currently playing infamous and maybe uncharted 2 until rugby :)
