Kick Chase offside rule

Hi, I was wondering how Italy and many international teams now seem to be leaving a large amount of their team offside in a kick-chase. I heard that there was some kind of loop-hole but I couldn't find anything on it. Does anyone know why they can do this? Thanks

It makes a certain amount of sense if the kicker chases his own kick. If you were offside when it was kicked, you're played back onside as soon as the kicker passes you, and you can be close behind him when he catches it.
