I've looked around the forum for rules on thread necromancy, but I can't find the site rules anywhere. Do we not have them? Is this a lawless anarchy? Am I free to do anything I want? >:-D
Anyway, this thread is an update of last year's "Some inter-conference stats" thread started by stormer2010, found here:http://www.therugbyforum.com/showthread.php?28089-Some-inter-conference-stats. Some fora have strict rules against necroing so I decided to make this into a new thread - apologies if this was not the right course of action.

So, without further ado, the statistics!
Inter-conference game results
AU:
12 wins, 8 losses against NZ (60% win ratio)
9 wins, 1 draw, 10 losses against SA (45%)
21 wins, 1 draw, 18 losses in total (52.5%)
NZ:
8 wins, 12 losses against AU (40%)
11 wins, 9 losses against SA (55%)
19 wins, 21 losses in total (47.5%)
SA:
10 wins, 1 draw, 9 losses against AU (50%)
9 wins, 11 losses against NZ (45%)
19 wins, 1 draw, 20 losses in total (47.5%)
I think someone's already mentioned that there seemed to be a rock-paper-scissors thing going on this year - Australian teams did well against New Zealanders, New Zealand teams did well against South Africans, and South African teams did well against Australians.
The three conferences were almost even in terms of interconference wins, but Australia was the strongest with 2 more wins than NZ and SA, and when everything was said and done NZ turned out to be dead last! *mock horror*
However, the story was different when it comes to points differentials - Australia was at -32 and New Zealand was +23. South Africa managed to stay in the positive at +9 despite the Kings' terrible PD (-266) because all other SA teams had a positive PD.
Tries scored (for/against)
AU: 189/187 (+2)
NZ: 215/209 (+6)
SA: 176/184 (-8)
No surprises there, with New Zealand scoring and conceding the most tries, and South Africa the least. However, this difference disappears when only inter-conference games are considered:
AU:
54/47 against NZ (+7)
47/52 against SA (-5)
101/99 in total
NZ:
47/54 against AU (-7)
65/52 against SA (+13)
112/106 in total
SA:
52/47 against AU (+5)
52/65 against NZ (-13)
104/112 in total
(The same rock-paper-scissors relationship as the inter-conference game results emerges.)
All in all, compared to last year, the conferences are very evenly matched. (The final PD last year were NZ +191, SA +77 and AU -268.) I want to be happy about this, but a part of me wishes we could go back to beating Australian teams as often and as soundly as we used to do.
