... in order to align with Olympic regulations.

IRB reg. 9 is also in place, covering this tournament - so if a player wants to play 7s then their club has to release them!

It's interesting, but will have little bearing on SA 7's as the guys that play 7's for the Blitzbokke have a contract with SARU and not a club/union/franchise.

You do get some players that are contracted at a club/union/franchise, but it's only if they aren't part of the regular squad setup for either the 15 or 7's squads...

I should think it will remain in place as long as 7s is an Olympic sport - in Olympic years (and the season leading up to one) at least.

Yeah... it's the same for English players.

But - for example - If Habana decides that he wants to play for the Blitzbokke, then Toulon will have to release him, in the same way that they have to for the Rugby Championship and other international windows.
