I think teams that have the advantage are strong teams with weak teams in their conference much like the teams pooled with and Italian side in the HC gets free 5 points and invariably end up among the top qualifiers. Aus and SA have the advantage here as
our weaker teams (Rebels, Force, Lions and Cheetahs) should be wins for the stronger teams even though they may push it close in derbie matches (Sharks, Bulls, Waratahs and Reds beating these previously mentioned teams). Compare that to the NZ conference where the 'weaker' teams are the Highlandrs and Chiefs where the Highlanders ended up beating the Hurricanes who will struggle to qualify with 2 matches against the Blues and Crusaders and the other top teams in other conferences having 'an easier ride'.
Something which had me confused but I think it is a great innovation is that teams get 4 points for a bye.
It sounds weird at first but I feel it gets rid of anyone needing to keep in mind that some teams have had less games and one could only have a look at the log. Then again for teams struggling to win, they are probably looking forward to the free 8 points LOL and this is another way the log could not be a very good reflection of form. Oh well.
