Parc des Sports Aguilera - 18/01/13 - 21.00

21.00 kick off on a cold, misty and wet day in South West France.

Biarritz fighting to find some dignity should be dlelighted as this means their heavy, huge pack should come more into the game rather than their, overall, pretty disappointing defensively backs against one of the most attacking sides in Europe.

The ground will be sodden and, indeed, there has been talk as to whether it will be playable.....guess the bonus point win that BO needs is not really a possibility in these circumstances!!!!

A losing bonus point for BO is now a possibility and only that can be deemed anywhere near a success to the supporters who really should not be looking, realisitically, anywhere closer to a win.........!

Its a good job the games not at the Stoop as I imagine it would probable have been called off with all the snow down here in the South East.

Would that have meant that we split the points...? I might get down to Aguillera with a hose pipe if that were the case!!

Saw some Quins fans walking along the promenade getting absolutely soaked..........have they not heard that the bars are open!!!

Well the match was played but with many parts of the pitch like a swimming pool and this, no doubt at all, kept Biarritz in the game.

Biarritz played with huge spirit but their technical deficiencies were to the fore as both Broster and Barcella were hung out to dry at prop. Yachvilli had a poor game and his passing was so different to that of Care that they were in different classes, wrong options, inability to play the ref and change from the plan of action when it patently did not work.

Barraque at 10, the subject of rumours of a move to Toulouse, played two weeks ago and was substituted, dropped last week and thrown to the wolves this week in a must win match in which he was so short of confidence and mistreated by Yachvilli that one begins to think that they are either trying to break him or ensure he leaves!

Imanol was substituted at half time but was not missed, Barraque shortly after when it should have been Yachvilli and Ngwenya followed having been caught on a cross field chase by Lowe!!

I was very pleasantly surprised to see BO hold Quins to the losing bonus point and, as I said before the game that this should be treated as a success, I do but am old enough and wise enough to say that the weather was the main winner…….

So the European journey of 13 successive years comes to an end and I for one wonder when BO will qualify again………….Last word, Quins supporters were huge and many times were the only voices being heard, I am sure they enjoyed themselves but wonder how they are getting home!!

PS.....currently 15 degrees in bright sunshine on my terrace so not all bad here in the winter Dewi!!

Finally got around to watching this match, and it's a keeper! When people ask me 'what's rugby', I'm going to show them this game. Sure, it may not have been the best conditions or a high-scoring match, but damn, was it entertaining! And those announcers were really on a roll, too:

“They’re growing rice over thereâ€
“I’ve seen sties in better condition than this pitchâ€
“That corner they got into is a paddling poolâ€
“There’s a couple of carp in thereâ€

 It was sport and comedy all wrapped up into one! As a spectator, I really don't know how players do it - it's one of the things that first attracted me to the game. I mean, if I fall down I STAY down...a good ten or twenty minutes. And if I fall down in the mud, I not only stay down, but I cry, too. What these guys did in that match had me mesmerized, and really, REALLY happy I was watching in my toasty warm house, and not rolling around in the mud with them.

I...I think... ;)
