Ben Gollings insists he is keeping his option open after he was released from the England Sevens set-up.Gollings has been the heartbeat of the England Sevens side since making his debut in the 1999 IRB Sevens Series in Paris.
In 12 years, Gollings has gone on to become the all-time record points-scorer in Sevens with 2,652 in 70 tournaments and is the joint highest-capped player in the IRB Series.

God knows why he wasn't offered a new contract

Will be interesting to see where he ends up!

It was good while it lasted. Lower league semi-prodom beckons.

Aye,
Will probably end up with a lower-end Championship side and then retire and coach 7s or something

Really shocked at this, he is only 31 and is still a quality and reliable player for England.

I remember this guy played a number of seasons with a Brisbane club team. He was a standout and lead them to ***les but it wasn't/isn't of a professional standard

Legend of the 7's game, stupid to let him go.

Has said in the papers he wants to try and make the Olympic team for GB.

He'll be 36 by that time. Great player, but there is no way he'll be capable of playing for GB in 2016.

Can't see why not, Pincent and Redgrave were both ancient when they picked up their last medals.

I reckon Gollings could do it at that age, to be honest
He's never been the fastest 7s player but he reads the game better than most and sets up a ridiculous amount of tries (while scoring more than his fair share too)

He played for Sunnybank, same club as Ben Lucas scored 35 odd points for in the local club final.

A truely great Sevens player, a joy to watch even if he plays for England.

Must echo the sentiments of others, he is still one of the best Sevens players around, arguably the best English Sevens player, so why wasn't he offered a new contract?

Apparently he's off to the "rugby lions" the 4th division side that Neil Back has just taken over as head coach at

A millionaire ex-player runs it (has just bought it?) and wants to turn them into a pro-side with a 30k seater stadium with retractable roof...
Seems like he's got ideas above his station, but will be interesting to see how high he can get the team :p
