Bath Rugby can today confirm that Gary Gold has left the Club with immediate effect.
The decision was taken following a re-structure in the rugby department and with the best interests of both Gary and the Club in mind.
No further comment will be made until it is appropriate.

Wow.

Sounds like he was sacked.

This is mind boggling. Having their best season for a long time so far and then something like this happens. I'm a bit stunned to be honest.

I am in shock over this, as Bath have been playing some fantastic rugby... I guess Bruce Craig has got his reasons, be interesting to see what the new structure is going to be... I know Mike Ford is now the Head Coach, so I am not sure how much influence Gary Gold has had in the last couple of months...

Could be a huge blow when you look at how much Bath have improved this season. They are developing a great side, but in dire need of getting their backs into gear. Maybe it is only a temporary change, one can hope.

Well, it seems to be a case of too many cooks.
How much influence he has had is hard to gauge, I guess we will see soon enough!

There are two ideas that have been floating around this season prior to this news:

1.) There were rumours that Steve Macnamara was going to be joining the coaching staff.

2.) Many fans want an attack coach now.

Mike Ford - Head Coach

Toby Booth - "First Team Coach"

Neal Hatley - Forwards Coach

AFAICT Ford is part defense coach, part manager - he picks the teams.
Booth is responsible for the first team as a whole.

Interesting Tweet the other day from Gary Gold

Ironic? #NelsonMandela's greatest gift was the ability to forgive the people who betrayed him. Will try perfect that very fine art #easytosay

Sir Clive Woodward being touted as coming in as well as Steve McNamara and the other name being touted in Andy Robinson... SCW was seen in the box with Bruce Craig the other week, and would fit in with a lot of things for the club...

When you look at the coaching set up both Hatley and Booth are behind our Scrum/Forward packs which has adapted to the new laws a lot faster than other clubs, and has been one of the strongest aspects of our game, and Mike Ford is the key to our defence... We lack someone to get the backs going and a strategist, so Woodward would fit into that bill...

Also just been reading that GG has been planning to move back to SA for Christmas... SA franchise for him...

Some rumours going round that GG was asking for more control at the club and was refused, lots of people suggesting (including an anonymous player) that it was known from the beginning of the season to be a possibility.
And as above, that he's been moving out in time for Christmas.

SCW did recently step down from the Tigers' board it's still tenuous conjecture at this point though.

One can only hope that it reobounds straight into that oily smirk of B........ Craig who is just as bad as Wray.............they all deserve to reap what they sew!!

Bath rugby club are the losers..............good luck Gary!

Doubt he'll get a job in SA as a head coach. Lions just appointed Johan Ackerman, Allistair Coetzee renewed his contract with the Stormers. Sharks just got Jake White. Naka Drotske has been growing as a coach at the Cheetahs and the Bulls have Frans Ludeke...

Maybe an assistant coach or a head coach role in the Varsity Cup...

I'm more interested in what Francois Louw will do now... If there's something brewing at Bath, Louw could be the next one to leave as there are huge requests for him to return to SA.

I think Louw is settled in Bath for the long-haul on and off the pitch.

It's very difficult to tell, I would be very surprised (not to mention absolutely gutted) if Flouw left.

This was tweeted by Biggs earlier today

@tombiggs11: Amazing how quickly things can change in sport. Didn't see that coming. A bolt from the blue, black and white. #prayforflouw

But it was quickly removed, however its key to know Louw has a long term contract so its going to cost to get him out, if they will release him... Also I believe Louw is very settled at Bath

The McNamara rumour has been going for at least a month or so but has picked up massively in the last few hours.

To which Jiffy replied directly with "Are you kidding?" which suggests to me that it's credible.

How bad is he? Pretty much every response has been one of astonishment.

Which doesn't seem to fit with the fact that Bath and the Roosters are apparently chasing him.
