Forwards: Thomas Domingo (Clermont), Jerome Schuster (Perpignan), Luc Ducalcon (Castres), Nicolas Mas (Perpignan), Guilhem Guirado (Perpignan), William Servat (Toulouse), Dimitri Szarzewski (Stade Francais), Romain Millo-Chluski (Toulouse), Lionel Nallet (Racing-Metro), Pascal Pape (Stade Francais), Julien Pierre (Clermont), Julien Bonnaire (Clermont), Thierry Dusautoir (Toulouse, capt.), Alexandre Lapandry (Clermont), Fulgence Ouedraogo (Montpellier), Sebastien Chabal (Racing-Metro), Imanol Harinorquy (Biarritz).

Backs: Morgan Parra (Clermont), Dimitri Yachvili (Biarritz), Damien Traille (Biarritz), Francois Trinh-Duc (Montpellier), Fabrice Estebanez (Brive), Yannick Jauzion (Toulouse), David Marty (Perpignan), Aurelien Rougerie (Clermont), Marc Andreu (Castres), Julien Arias (Stade Francais), Yoann Huget (Bayonne), Maxime Medard (Toulouse), Alexis Palisson (Brive), Jerome Porical (Perpignan).

France have on Wednesday named a 31-man squad for their international series, which begins with a match against Fiji in Nantes on November 13.

The squad includes Stade Francais hooker Dimitri Szarzewski, despite the fact he faces a disciplinary hearing on November 8 after he headbutted Toulon's Jean-Philippe Genevois in a Top 14 match on Saturday.

After the game against Fiji, Marc Lièvremont's side face Argentina in Montpellier on November 20 before Australia at Stade de France in Paris the following week.

Interesting to see no Bastareaud in the squad even though he has been playing well in Paris.

Surprised to see Basta dropped,
However i do think he's quite one dimentional, and at international level he's been found out/teams know how to contain him. He was much more effective earlier on in the 6N compared to later, as teams adapted their game plan to "everyone pile on Bastareud when he gets the ball"

Well to me the biggest surprise is to see no Poitrenaud in there. No Wisniewski is a pity too, considering Traille has been selected to play 10 having played only one game in that position this season!

I'm quite confident Basta will be in the WC squad though, this is more of a kick in the butt to him. He has to get fitter and be more eager to play in a blue jersey.

Arias is a logical choice, he's been superb this season with Paris, hope he gets some time to shine at an international level!

Rougerie will finally play 13, he's been very good in that position in the past 2 years, he's not a winger anymore, he's lost some pace but gained some weight, it's logical.

Not much to say on the forwards, Barcella being injured.

What is the likely starting lineup looking like at this stage?

I'm familiar with the forward pack (apart from Jerome Schuster), but am unsure about a number of the backline players (I still expect to see a back three of Clerc, Heymans, and Poitrenaud...). Given that there are 4 locks in the squad I assume Chabal is likely to be used in the loose-forwards (backing up Harinorquy at 8?). I'm surprised not to see Picamoles not selected, as I've always been impressed with him.

I think Poitrenaud out is a good call, as he's been a little shaky at times in the past, and Medard has been insane for Toulouse recently. I'd go for a Palisson, Andreau, Medard back 3.
Basta's a bit of a strange call, as even when he's being targeted by the opposition he offers strength in the midfield that isn't really offered elsewhere.

Everybody is up in arms at this squad in France...some strange calls in the backs, I have to agree... Poitrenaud should be there, he's our more expereinced fullback and has been one of the best toulousain this year. Traille rushed in after 1 game back from injury? Estebanez, a Traille clone but without the international experience? Rougerie at 13, Marty again? No Malzieu?

Happy to see Chabal at #8, at last, and Ouedraogo back in the mix.

With any luck not Traille. He shouldn't really be filling in at 10 but i get the feeling he will be...

It's gonna be Traille. I predict a f*cking disaster. Wisniewski has been called up but if we're lucky FTD will just miss the Fiji game...

Edit: FTD is out for the whole series, and will miss the Baa-Baas game as well...
:mad::mad:

Don't see the interest to call back Traillle and not to give Wiesnievski a chance to be an option as second fly half...Moreover after Lievremont's interview justifying the non selection of players like Poitrenaud, Medard, Malzieu by the desire to give Andreu, Huget, and some other young players a last occasion to proove their value before the WRC.

Lievremont said a long time ago that the back up #10 was to be Traille. He couldn't test him because of his injury so he's doing it now...

There is no words to express what I feel now...Might as well not watch the games.

Skrela's gonna screw it up big time again, watch this space

We're gonna be eaten alive by Argentina. We'll obliterate the Ozzie pack but that's about it...

Yeah, Skrela is IN :D however, it will not be fun because kicker is Parra I suppose. It was a good game a couple years ago when Skrela lost by himself to Australia in Paris :D
