Since all teams dont play 1st xv until they reach the semis, even then some teams dont, should it be turned back into a knockout competition like it was before 2005. To add some incentive, the winner could take a champions cup place if not already qualified.

Advantages
Gives mid table teams chance at champions cup
Potential giant killings for championship teams
Good gates for lower league teams if you draw big prem team
Alot more exciting than the present format

Disadvantages
Wouldnt be able to play in British and Irish cup
Could be slaughters, and alot of them
Is their enough weeks in a season?

Thoughts?

The LV format is there so clubs can put out the younger/2nd teams while the internationals are being played and is a great chance for players to break into the first team and coaches to look at the other players they have. Its not a first class cup comp like the old John player cup was and was never meant to be.

Something I had thought about and agree completely. I would love to see a knock style comp and I would certainly bring in the RFU Championship and WRU Premiership teams in to go with the Regions and the English Premiership.I would suggest perhaps group stage (before the November Internationals) for the lower ranked teams to qualify initially, top 4/6 of each league maybe? So they have more games and the best lower teams get through and then have random draws and knock outs. Perhaps lower ranked teams get home advantage as well, set it up for giant killing.Either way it would be great to see. And then a treble could be on as well.

Ypu hear the championship teams saying the british and irish cup costs too much if ypure playing in highlands or ireland so localising it would also cut costs.
Who doesnt like a giant killing, what was the team who beat wasps, eventhough they were 3 leagues below them?

Pertemp Bees (Birmingham & Solihul).

I don't mind the idea of a proper knockout cup, especially if the Premiership becomes ring fenced.

I believe that Bees were in National One (now The Championship) at the time they turned Wasps over. It wasn't quite the giant killing it is made out to be - a top 4 side were beaten by a top 20 one. For every "giant killing" we would suffer many, many one sided matches.
