[QUOTE="j'nuh, post: 616893, member: 55446"] Really strange that we are talking about the England Six Nations squad in the EOTY tests thread. :p Thought I'd start a new thread. Mods, please move this over when the 6N sub-forum gets opened! Realised I hadn't put up any thoughts about the squad release. Mixed bag, wasn't it? I'm sure that we are all agreed that everywhere other than the back three, England are in a good position. The best 23 that England can put out are in the EPS. There are some minor changes I'd have liked to have seen, but nothing substantial. Not expecting much to change until the WC now, which is good because the pack is looking pretty formidable. So I'll just get to the point about the back three. I was disappointed at first to see Goode and Ashton in. However, I'm starting to think that there's good reason. I bet Lancaster doesn't know which (or which two) of May/Nowell/Watson that he was going to pick until he saw them in camp. I bet a decision isn't made until quite late. Putting one of the players in the EPS and not the others would have invited so much scrutiny from the press. I bet what happens is that one or two will be picked, and if they perform better than Ashton/Goode, they will keep their place. Lancaster is flaunting the rules a little by picking Myler from the Saxons to be in his 6N squad rather than Burns in the EPS. I reckon he'll do the same for the Saxons wingers if they happen to prove their worth, and then they'll be fully promoted in July. Or at least, I'm hoping this is the case. :p Thankfully, there's not a great deal of chance that Goode will be starting ahead of Brown. The only other contentious point is who will play 13. Help? My problem is that we don't actually have any 13s in the squad. It's difficult to pick a good player and just shift them into another position, hoping they'll still be as good... not that Lancaster had too much choice. Saxons-wise, would have liked to have seen Lancaster be brave and fast-tracked Stooke (for Robson). IMO, the form player at Glos. By far the most physical. Never seems to get knocked back in his tight carries, presents good front-foot ball. Who knows where Stooke will be in two years time, but I know for sure that Robson would be a last resort option.
